CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Thursday, June 8 John Watson and Wally Grant played a Minor Singles match. Wally got off to a great start and after two ends led 4-0. John gradually got back into the match but it wasn’t until the eighteenth end that he took the lead 15-13. After twenty-four ends John had increased his lead to seven shots, 24-17. Eleven of the next 12 ends were won by one shot and it wasn’t until the thirty-seventh end that John scored the two shots he needed to win the match, 31-24.
Also on Thursday, Gary and Peter McPhee won the first two ends of their Semi-Final Minor Pairs match against Steve Mills and George to lead 5-0. Steve and George had to chase Gary and Peter and it wasn’t until the seventeenth end that they took the lead 14-13. By the twentieth end Gary and Peter had regained the lead 17-16 and on the last end they were holding the shot to win the match but Steve, with his last bowl, moved the jack out of bounds and the end had to be replayed. On a hard fought replayed end Steve and George scored two shots to win the match and advance to the final.
On Saturday, June 10, in a Minor Singles match, Rob Irving had the better of the early ends and lead Steve Turner, 6-1 after five ends. Steve won four of the next five ends and going into the eleventh end lead 9-7. From there on, Steve took control of the match and ran out the winner after thirty-four ends, 31-21.
