Congratulations to Col Hayward for being awarded the Parkes Shire Senior Sportsman for 2013. He made it a memorable weekend by teaming with Graham Barby to win a Pairs tournament at Canowindra on Australia Day and then skipped the winning team in our Australia Day Mini Carnival on Monday.
The Mini Carnival attracted 56 bowlers from Parkes, Inverell and Forbes.
Winning teams on the day were:
1st – Brenda Davies, Kevin Hynds, John Davies and Col Hayward
2nd – Noel Nicholson, John Ward, Steve Ryan and Arthur Corbett
3rd – Norm Keane, Ray Jones, Gary McPhee and Geoff Freeman
4th – Glen Murphy, John Williams, Geoff Williams and Grant Lambert (Forbes team)
DISTRICT FOURS
The Parkes team of Dave Johnson, Mick Went, Graham Fliedner and Brett Frame are the 2014 District Fours winners. They had a narrow win over a Forbes team in the final played at Peak Hill on Sunday.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
63 bowlers participated on Thursday night.
There were a number of close matches which saw Rok-FM defeat Turf N Surf 14-11, Super Bees defeat High Rollers 13-12, Young Guns defeat Bowling Stones 12-9 and Spadgers defeat Three Amigos 16-11.
The major prize winning team was Super Bees with Casey Surveying winning the minor prize. Golden Girls won the lucky losers prize.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The club Singles and Pairs Championships are underway. Four games were played over the last week.
Major Singles results:
After trailing 21-27, Dave Johnson won the last seven ends to record a 31-27 win over Steve Mills.
Graham Fliedner played Brett Frame. This was a very close match in which the lead changed on a number of occasions. Graham led 22-16 then Brett won six of the next seven ends to lead 30-23. Graham won the next six ends to level the score at 30all. Graham held the shot and match only to see Brett draw the winning shot with his last bowl to record a 31-30 win.
In a Minor Singles match Steve Turner led all the way in his 31-21 win over Craig Henry.
In a Major Pairs match Col Mudie and John O’Malley had a good 30-14 win over Tony Byrne and Steve Mills.
All players are requested to check the draw and arrange to play matches as soon as possible.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
Only 8 bowlers turned out and played two games of Pairs.
Tom Furey and Rob Irving overcome a slow start to record a 17-10 win over Guy Ellery and Greg Fisher.
Bill Wyatt and Alan Affleck led all the way in their 12-9 win over Bob Freeman and Mick Blunt.
Voucher winners were Mick Blunt, Alan Affleck and Bill Wyatt.
The jackpot was not won and now stands at $820. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
SOCIAL
26 bowlers played five games of Pairs and one Triples on Thursday afternoon.
In the Triples match Nev Whitfield, Norm Keane and Kevin Hynds led all the way and defeated Bob Freeman, Rob Irving and John Carr 25-17.
Bruce Deland and Brett Frame were too strong for Mike Valentine and Warren Bevan, winning 22-14.
Alan Affleck and John Corcoran recorded a narrow 19-17 victory over Colin Woods and Gary McPhee.
John Keogh and John Hodge scored a big 28-14 win over Allan Wright and John Ward.
Kevin Robinson and Keith MacRae scored four shots on the last end to defeat N Feaby and Mike Parkes 24-20.
After trailing 18-21, Marieke Moore and Wally Austin scored ten shots on the last three ends to defeat Janice Robinson and Greig Ball 28-21.
Major winners were Nev Whitfield, Norm Keane and Kevin Hynds and the minor winners were Bruce Deland and Brett Frame.
With a large number of bowlers participating in the District Fours on Saturday only 14 bowlers played two games of Pairs and one Triples.
In the Triples game Matt Parker, Ray Jones and Keith MacRae played Bill Skinner, Col Woods and Tom Casey. This was a very close match up to the 19th end. At this stage the score was 19-18 in favour of Matt, Ray and Keith. They then scored eight shots in the last two ends to record a 27-18 win.
Greig Ball and John Davies played Alan Affleck and Joe Crowley. Alan and Joe led 10-9 after 13 ends. Greig and John then scored ten shots on the next three ends and, aided by a further six shot end, went on to win 25-14.
Tom Furey and Steve Mills played Bernie Mitchell and Kevin Hynds. Holding a narrow one shot lead after 15 ends, Tom and Steve won the next three ends and went on to win the match 24-17.
Major winners were Steve Turner and (marker) John O’Malley and the minor winners were Tom Furey and Steve Mills.

15th February – Round 1 of the Major Pairs are to be played by this date.
!5th February -Parkes Spaceman Rugby League Football Club Bowls Day. Play to commence at 5pm. This is a mixed mufti event with teams of three. Cost is $15 per player, which includes bowls and a BBQ tea. For catering purposes, nominations (teams of three or individual nominations) need to be in by 12th February.
