G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
We start this weeks news with marvelous news, the Mighty 7's Pennant side have gone through to the playoffs at Dubbo, facing the daunting task of beating Condo at Condo, they drove West with high hopes, and came home with a wet sail, winning 5/1. so now fellas get set for June 16/17 at Dubbo, the draw is on the notice board at the Club, read it and see who your next victims are going to be.
The 6's faced a near impossible task to go through, but they went down fighting, they had to beat Condo 6/0, and hoped that Forbes were beaten 6/0, they did their part with a great win, but unfortunately Forbes did'nt read the script, and beat Railway 5/1, so the sixes bow out, and Forbes go through.
Well done to both teams, we now have two pennant sides playing in Dubbo, the fives and sevens, so everyone come to Dubbo over that weekend to cheer on the teams.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
No bowls on Thursday due to rain, but 24 players braved the elements on Saturday. The winners on the day were Tom Casey and Norm Keane, with the runners up being Dave Johnson and marker Eddie McPhee.
Sunday Jackpot Bowls, saw only 4 players, the Jackpot was not won, this week it will be a very handy $700.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.
The weekend saw no less than three finals played, Both Major and Minor singles, plus the Minor Pairs.
In the Major Singles the two heavyweights of the game met to decide the winner, Both Baldy Frame and Colin Hayward, are past winners of this event, and on a cold overcast day, met to decide the winner for 2012, in a very tight and entertaining game the large crowd saw some excellent bowls from both players, but there can be only one winner, and Col Hayward came through with a great 31/22 win. Congratulations Col and Bad luck Baldy.
The Minor Singles, what can I say, Dave Johnson and Peter McPhee had a marathon game, it took 42 ends to decide the winner, and the glory goes to Dave Johnson with a mighty 31/30 win, Both Bowlers played their hearts out, and I wondered if the Marker had enough chalk, because he was constantly on the green marking touchers, So now Dave advances to the ranks of the Majors, and Peter lives to terrorise the other Minor Players, congratulations to both of you.
Finally, the Minor Pairs, the Father and Son Combo of Wally and Jonno Austin took on Greg Fisher and Mick Craft, but on the day Greg and Mick were superior, winning 25/7.
GENERAL NEWS.
The draw for the Major and Minor Triples is now out, so get in and play as soon as you can, We all saw what the weather was like on the weekend, Winter has arrived, so the first available sunny day I expect to see the greens full.
The Nominations for Both the Major and Minor Fours are now open, there is no closing date as yet, but it will not be far off, so get your teams organised now, and put your nominations in the box in the bar.
Well thats it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
