Team Hayward Mixed Fours Champions

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
MIXED FOURS
The team of Cherie Frame, Rob Irving, Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward are the 2015 Mixed Fours Champions following their win over Wally Grant, Maree Grant, Chris Dunn and Pat Cooney last Thursday evening. The early stages of the match were very close with the score 8 all after nine ends. Pat’s team edged ahead over the next four ends to lead 13-10. Col’s team then dominated the rest of the match. They won six of the last eight ends, including two four shot and one five shot winning ends to run out 26-15 winners.
MIXED PAIRS
One of the semi-final matches was played on Sunday morning when Margaret Hawken and Graham Barby went up against Elaine Miller and Dave Johnson. After losing the first three ends, Elaine and Dave won seven of the next nine ends to establish a 17-6 lead. Margaret and Graham fought back to reduce the margin to 12-19. Elaine and Dave then won the next three ends to extend their lead to 27-12 and they went on to record a 28-15 win.
HANDICAP SINGLES
The finalists for the Handicap Singles have been decided following matches played during the week.
In a quarter final match Mike Valentine was up against John Dunn. This match saw each player string together four or five winning ends at various stages. Mike won the first five ends to lead 6-0 then John won four ends to grab an 8-6 lead. The next few ends were evenly shared before Mike again won five ends in a row to lead 18-12. John hit back and won the next four ends to regain the lead 20-18. Mike levelled the score at 20 all then John got the lead back 23-20. Mike scored four shots on the next end to lead 24-23 only to see John win the next end to take the match 25-24.
The first semi-final was between Tom Furey and Ron Hornery. After giving Ron a two shot handicap start, Tom quickly gained the ascendancy, opening up an early 17-8 lead and going on to record a 25-11 win.
The other semi-final saw Rob Irving up against John Dunn. This started out a very close tussle with each player winning nine of the first 18 ends with John holding a narrow 17-15 lead. John finished strongly, winning five of the last seven ends, to claim a 25-18 win. John will now play Tom in the final which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
54 bowlers enjoyed another great night of bowls.
In a very exciting game We Wreck ‘M ‘N’ We Fix ‘M scored three shots on the last end to grab a 12 all draw with Elle and also winning the game on a countback.
New team, Alley Cats, put in a great performance in going down narrowly 13-11 to Rok-FM.
Bowl Bros lost their first game on the season when they went down to Three Amigos 16-6.
Bushies survived a big finish from Central West Glass to record a 15-12 win.
Other winning teams were High Rollers, Purple People, Super Bees, Loopy Loppers 2 and Two & A Half Fitters.
Major prize winners on the night were Super Bees with the lucky losers prize going to Central West Glass.
SOCIAL BOWLS
12 hardy souls braved the extreme heat on Thursday.
Mick Blunt and Col Mudie were too strong for Bob Freeman and Lee Hetherington in their 27-10 win.
After leading 18-11, John Taylor and John Corcoran held on to defeat Max Tomkins and Matthew Parker 21-19.
In a very high scoring game John Dunn and Keith MacRae dominated early against Bill Skinner and Warren Bevan. They led 23-7 after 12 ends and went on to win 33-22.
Prize winner was the Handicap Singles match winner, Tom Furey.
Saturday saw 20 social bowlers play five games of pairs alongside the handicap singles players. The afternoon was highlighted by the big margins in each game which ranged from 14 to 32 shots.
Ted Wright and Matthew Parker were both in great form as they only lost four ends in their huge 39-7 win over Nimo Mills and Geoff Freeman.
After leading 18-3, Gordon Dickson and John Ward went on to defeat Wally Austin and Keith MacRae 29-9.
Col Woods and Col Hayward played very consistent bowls to defeat Joe Crowley and Col Mudie 30-8.
Guy Ellery and John Corcoran led all the way in their 27-12 win over Bob Freeman and Tom Casey.
Craig Henry and Tom Furey also led all the way as they defeated Mick Craft and Dave Johnson 27-13.
Major prize winners were Gordon Dickson and John Ward with a lucky losers prize going to the team who suffered the biggest defeat, Nimo Mills and Geoff Freeman.
All bowlers are reminded that Thursday, Saturday and Sunday social bowls are now mufti. Full club uniform is required for all club championship matches and representative duties.
SUNDAY MORNING BOWLS
6 bowlers played one game of triples.
Bob Freeman, George Bradley and Mick Craft played Keith Hutchison, Eileen Bradley and Steve Turner.
Steve’s team won three of the first four ends to lead 9-1. Mick’s team won the next eight ends and led 17-9. Steve’s team then scored 10 shots in winning the last two ends to record a most unlikely 19-17 win. Keith, Eileen and Steve only won five of the fourteen ends played.
Prize winner was George Bradley. Come along next Sunday for a game of bowls and a sausage sandwich. Names in by 9:30 for a 10:00am start.
OLD BOWLS CARNIVAL
37 bowlers thoroughly enjoyed the Rhona Went and Liz Byrne sponsored event on Sunday afternoon. Two games of 12 end triples were played. There were numerous highlights during the afternoon. Rose Mitchell’s magnificent lead bowls certainly stood out. Six year old Cooper Fliedner played very good lead bowls and consistently out drew his opponent. He certainly has a great future in the game. Cooper also won the Kevin Hynds sponsored best junior bowler award. Other lucky bowlers who won prizes were Kevin Hynds, Tony Byrne, George Bradley, Mick Blunt, Rose Mitchell, Bill Skinner, Cherie Frame, Tania Parker, Brad Parker and Col Woods. Thank you Liz and Rhona for putting on such a great day.
PRESENTATION DAY
Presentation day will be held on Saturday, December 5. All championship winners are asked to be in club uniform for photos. The presentation will commence straight after social bowls. A barbecue tea will follow the presentation.
WORKING BEE
A working bee is being held on Sunday, December 20, to renovate the Tiff Dwarf No. 2 green. A big roll up will make light work of the scheduled early morning job.
2016 PENNANTS
Bowls NSW have made some administrative changes for the 2016 pennant season. All bowling clubs have to register all pennant participants by December and only bowlers who have been registered can compete in pennants. If you would like to play pennants or be a reserve please indicate by putting your name on the sheet displayed on the verandah notice board by Monday, November 30.
