G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
TWILIGHT BOWLS.
20 teams fronted on a beautiful calm night for a game of fun bowls, the winners on the night were THE HIGH ROLLERS, and the runners up BACK TRUNDLE ROAD, some top games were played, as the following results will testify, FLETCHER FORD drew with COBB ST 10/10, ROK FM beat THE GOLDEN GIRLS 11/9, BMB beat UNITING CHURCH 12/9, and SUPER BEES had a close game against WE WRECKEM AND FIX EM, 12/10.
This competition is getting close to the end, and there are still several teams vying for the top spot.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
16 players fronted for a game of bowls on a hot and humid day, and the winners were John Hodge and Tom Hamilton.
Saturday afternoon saw a mighty 48 bowlers on the greens, the winners being Nimo Mills and Mike Parkes, runners up Col Woods and Wally Grant, my spies on the ground said Mike Parkes played the game of his life, and would have beaten anyone on the green.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.
There were six games of championship games played on the day, in the Minor Singles Kev Hynds just got over the line against the young gun Ben Townsend, 31/27, and in three games of Minor Pairs, Mick Craft and Greg Fisher 26 beat Sheldon Orr and Greg Townsend 15, Wilbur Harris and Craig Henry beat Peter McPhee and Steve Ryan 26/23, and Steve (Nimo) Mills and Mike Parkes beat Greig Ball and John Hodge 21/13. And in a late game of Major Singles Mick Went had a good win over Tony Bright 31/17.
PENNANTS.
The No 7 Grade side had its first hit out of the Pennant season, in a home game against the Railway Diggers side, but things did not go well for the side, going down 5/1, the only side to make a big comeback was the Terry Hetherington led side of Tony Byrne, Ron Murray and Bernie Mitchell, down 10/0 after 7 ends they fought back to win 21/14, but unfortunately the other rinks had no such luck, so this week we are off to Peak Hill, hopefully to score our first win
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
A small number of bowlers competed for the Jackpot, but it did not go off, so $260 this Sunday.
GENERAL NEWS.
Notice to all Bowlers, (1) All Club Championship Games to be played in CLUB UNIFORMS, no variations please, and (2), all bowlers PLEASE be early for your games, 1.30pm start means on the green, not wandering in to pay green fees, and polish bowls, etc.
Also, bowlers are advised that, even if your Club game is rostered for the day, PLEASE still phone in to confirm you will be playing, not like last Saturday, when a Major Pairs game was rostered, cards were made out, players named were recorded, but two players failed to appear, resulting in their forfeit.
This makes a lot of extra work for the volunteers who are running the day, so please help out wherever you can.
BOWLERS please note ,there are two Mufti Mixed Carnivals this Month.
Firstly, the PARKES CELLARS Day, this will be held on Saturday 23/3, starting at 1.30pm, teams of three, please put names in the Blue book at the bar,
also on Easter Saturday 30/3, a TOOHEYS Sponsored mini carnival will be held, this is for teams of four, starting at 10am, please put your team in the Blue Book.
We are still looking for a volunteer to take on the job of Bowls Secretary, if anyone is interested, or would like to know what is entailed in the position, please see me.
Well, that's it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
