Club Handicap Pairs Championships.
On Thursday, September 27 The Handicap Pairs Championship got under way when Col Hayward and Bob Freeman took on Arthur Corbett and Rob Irving. With the advantage of a five shot difference in handicaps, Col and Bob took the early lead but, after four ends, Arthur and Rob had taken the lead and never looked back, winning 34-14 after twenty-one ends.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, September 27.
It seems that Col, Bob and Rob backed up from the handicap pair’s game and three Pairs matches and one Triples match were played.
In a close match, scores were level 3 all after three ends in a Pairs match before Warren Bevan and Graham Barby scored five shots on the fourth end to lead Col Hayward and Ron Hornery. On the ninth end Col and Ron also scored 5 shots and the scores were again level at 10 all. After sixteen ends the scores were level again at 16 all but with three ends to play Warren and Graham lead by three shots. Col and Ron then scored single shots on each of the last three ends to draw the match 19 all and claimed bragging rights having won the ends 11-10.
In the other pairs matches, Col Mudie and Ray Jones had a win against Keith MacRae and Rob Irving, 26 17 and Guy Ellery and John Carr had a comfortable win over Tom Furey and Jim Blake.
After trailing for most of the match John Ward, John Watson and Trevor Harvey came back and had a one shot lead going into the final end against Greg Howlett, Bob Freeman and Greg Huggins but on the last end Greg’s team scored five shots to win the match 24-20.
The Winning Rink jackpot wasn’t won and will carry over to the next game day.
Saturday, September 29.
Steve Mills and Jim Blake had the best of the early ends to lead John Dunn and Gordon Dickson 7-2 after five ends. John and Gordon won the next four ends to lead 12-7 and held the lead until the sixteenth end when Steve and Jim went ahead 17-16. With two ends to play Steve and Jim had extended their lead to 21-17 but John and Gordon scored nine shots on the last two ends to win the match 26-21.
Other results were:
Gary McPhee and Bernie Mitchell 19 – Keith MacRae and Gladrin Sun 15.
Col Mudie and Rob Tinker 21 – John Ward and Greg Huggins 17.
