CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tuesday saw the last preliminary match of the Handicap Pairs. Gordon Dickson and Col Hayward played Keith MacRae (sub) and Mick Craft. Mick and Keith led 7-0 early, then Gordon and Col won the next seven ends to lead 20-7. From this point on Gordon and Col played consistent bowls to run out convincing winners 30-18.
The four teams to proceed to the semi-finals are:
1st – Gordon Dickson and Col Hayward with 3 wins + 38
2nd – Norm Keane and Mike Valentine with 3 wins + 32
3rd – Greig Ball and Tom Casey with 3 wins + 28
4th – Gary McPhee and Geoff Freeman with 3 wins + 18
One semi-final was played in very windy conditions on Thursday with Gary McPhee and Geoff Freeman playing Gordon Dickson and Col Hayward. Gary and Geoff held a slender 9-8 lead after 8 ends but that was the last time they were in the lead. Some very good bowls from Col, ably supported by Gordon, only allowed the opposition to win four of the last thirteen ends and they ran out worthy winners 22-18.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
10 bowlers turned out to try to win the $1000 jackpot.
In the pairs match John Dunn and Craig Henry played Rob Irving and Dave Johnson. Dave must have played a tough match, as he was seen pouring his last drink down the sink before leaving the club on Sunday. It’s good to see responsible drinkers in the club. Rob and Dave could only manage to win five ends in losing to John and Craig 16-11.
The triples match saw Mick Blunt, Keith Hutchison and Steve Ryan played Don Littlewood, Chris Dunn and Mal Porter. In a closely contested match each team won seven ends. Don, Chris and Mal won a couple of four shot ends to run out winners 13-10. It was good to see Chris back on the green.
Prize winners were Chris Dunn, Don Littlewood, Mick Blunt and John Dunn.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000.
Come along next Sunday for a game, a sausage sizzle, and to be in the running for the $1000 jackpot.
