Working Bee to finalise new green surface
There will be a working bee this Saturday morning (7.30am) to top dress No2 green, it will require all hands on deck to finish before it gets too hot, the more workers the better.
The new Tifdwarf green which was planted in October is looking a picture; this will be the last top dressing before it will be brought into action in a few weeks time.
Full credit must go to all concerned with this project as it has no doubt been a tough assignment considering the lack of natural moisture, no doubt it will be real asset to our club.
Thursday Games.
The game that took centre stage was a minor singles match which produced a huge upset when Greg Townsend upstaged the highly fancied Peter McPhee, playing great controlled bowls from start to finish Greg completely shut Peter out with an impressive 31-18 victory.
In social bowls the best game was a close 17-15 win for John Corcoran and Tom Hamilton over the fast finishing Colin Mudie and John Keogh.
In other Games John Davies and John Ward defeated John Carr and Greg Fisher 38-10; Eddie McPhee and Steve Ryan had a good win over Col Hayward and Bruce Orr 26-10.
John Hodge and Greig Ball were in fine touch handing out a convincing 33-11 drubbing to Terry Hetherington and Ron Murray.
In the triples Graham Barby, Mike Valentine and Tom Cole won a tough contest against Arthur Corbett, Wally Grant and Bob Freeman 25-19.
Starters for this week’s social mufti will be Graham Barby and Col Hayward.
Twilight Bowls.
Two games were standouts in twilight action; Railway Goat Poachers were again in the winner’s circle with a hard fought 14-12 win over Services.
Golden girls were in good touch to pick up a 15-10 win against Rowdy Wombats.
Saturday Matches.
Club championship matches again dominated the program providing plenty of exciting action.
In Major Singles
Two of the club heavyweights clashed with Col Hayward taking on Robert Corbett, scores were close at 18-17 with Col just in front.
Robert then won the next five ends opening up a match winning lead and going on to win in fine fashion 31-24.
In a much shorter match Graham Barby proved too strong for Wilber Harris running out a convincing 31-14 winner, and also a convincing winner was Colin Mudie completely over running Rob Tinker 31-11.
Two Major Pairs matches were also played, one in the morning as John Davies and Graham Barby were made to fight hard all the way for a 23- 15 win against Wally Grant and Dave Buggie.
John Carr and Greg Fisher combined brilliantly finishing full of running to upstage brothers Eddie and Peter McPhee 15-10 in an entertaining contest.
There was also six social games played and the best of them were.
A 20-17 score line for Mark Dwyer and Steven Mills over Dave Buggie and Mike Valentine; Garry McPhee and John Dunn won 21-17 against Arthur Corbett and Alan Afflick and Terry Hetherington and Ray Jones def John Corcoran and Joe Crowley 23-18.
Looking after proceedings this Saturday will be John Ward and Ron Murray.

District Matches.
Keith MacRae and Mick Craft contested the final of the President’s Pairs at Forbes last Saturday but unfortunately went down to the Forbes pair of Lyle Strudwick and Mike Connolly 28-18, well done boys in making the final.
The President’s Singles will be played this weekend at the Forbes club and we have some fine chances contesting this event, Noel Nicholson, Keith MacRae and Greig Ball all having the credentials to win.
At Peak Hill the Open and Senior Singles will be played, and again we have plenty of chances in both sections.
In the Senior Singles Col Hayward and Dave Worthington appear to be likely finalist could be interesting.
In the Open Division Baldy Frame, Robert Corbett, Graham Flidner and Colin Mudie appear our main chances.
Sunday Morning Bowls.
One Major Pairs match was played and the paring of Warren Bevan and Dean Searl finished strongly overcoming Garry McPhee and Greig Ball 20-17.
There were four social games played as well the best was a 20-15 win for Craig Henry and Nimo over Rob Irving and Liz Byrne.
Another good match resulted when Ted Wright and Keith Hutchison combined brilliantly to defeat Kevin Hynds and Gwenda Carty 17-9.
