Furey And Johnson Make Final

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
District Championships.
On Saturday, in the Semi-Finals of the District Champion of Club Champions Pairs event, at Condobolin, our team of Tom Furey and Dave Johnson defeated the strong team from Condobolin to advance to the Final. The Final, against the team from Parkes Railway Club was a very close match and our boys lost by a single shot, 20-19. Congratulations, Tom and Dave on making it to the final.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Thursday, in a Minor Singles match, Peter McPhee and John Watson played a very close game. After the first nine ends the scores were level 8 all and John won four of the next five ends to open up a lead of five shots, 15-10, which was to be the biggest margin for the whole match. From there on the lead changed hands several times and after thirty-four ends the scores were again level at 29 all. In a close fought final end Peter scored two shots to claim the match 31-29.
Social Bowls.
Thursday, July 6 .
A field of sixteen bowlers played four games of Pairs.
In the closest match of the day Keith MacRae and Joe Crowley had the better of the early ends against Col Haywood and Greg Huggins and after nine ends led 11-6. After thirteen ends Keith and Joe had extended the lead to eleven shots, 19-8. In a never say die effort, Col and Greg won seven of the last eight ends to win the match 22-20.
Warren Bevan and Jim Blake defeated John ward and Bob Freeman 27-21.
John Hodge and Rob Irving had a big win against Mike Valentine and Ray Jones.
In the other match it was good to see Bruce Deland back on the green after a spell away and he paired with Geoff Freeman to defeat Joe Davies and George Bradley, 22-15.
The Prize winners were Peter McPhee and Pat Cooney (who marked the Championship game) and the Runners-up prize went to Geoff Freeman and Bruce Deland.
Saturday, July 8 .
A Strong field of twenty-eight bowlers played seven matches of Pairs and in five of the seven the winning margins were less six shots or less.
Col Mudie and Steve Ryan fought hard all day against Michael Went (good to see you playing again, Michael) and John Hodge before scoring two shots on the last end to win, 19-18.
Les Kent and Greg Huggins lead all the way before winning 24-21 against Steve “Nimo” Mills and Jim Blake.
Geoff Freeman and Eileen Bradley had a good win over Col Hayward and Bob Freeman, 20-16.
Rhona Went and Ray Jones proved too strong for Ron Hornery and Ted Wright, winning 21-15.
John Ward and John Carr defeated Liz Byrne and Joe Crowley24-18.
Guy Ellery and Rob Irving had a convincing win over Dave Buggie and Martin Tighe, while Arthur Corbett and Gwenda Carty also had a strong win against Gary McPhee and George Bradley.
COMING EVENTS.
Charity Day in Support of Cancer Research.
On Sunday, July 23 the club is hosting a charity day for the local Cancer Research Support Group.
Dress is Mufti and play will start at 10am. Format for the day will be two bowl Triples, teams can be all male, all female or mixed and there will be two games of sixteen ends, one before and one after a sausage sizzle lunch.
There will be lots of prizes and raffles on the day.
Entry fee is $10 per player which includes lunch.
Entries of teams of three or single entries can be made by calling in to the Club or phoning, 68621446.Hope to see a good roll up to support this very deserving Charity.
Christmas in July.
A Christmas in July dinner will be held at the Club on Saturday, July 29th commencing at 7 pm.The cost is $30 per head which includes a traditional 2 Course Christmas Dinner and entertainment by solo artist, Amber Cashel playing all your favourite cover songs. Bookings (for yourself or for a group) are essential and can be made at the Club or you can ring 6862 1446.
