High Temperatures For Bowls
Published by The Rookie in Bowls Notes • 1/18/2019 4:40:14 PM
Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday, January 10
A good field of twenty-eight players braved the high temper4ature to play half a game before the storm broke.
The field included three visitors, Glen Flanagan from Cowra, Margaret O’Connor from Canberra and Max Mansfield, a self-confessed “grey nomad”. Max has been touring Australia for the last seven years and reckons he doesn’t know where he comes from.
The following are the scores when play was called off:
After twelve ends, in a high scoring match, Steve Mills and Greg Huggins had won nine ends and scored 21 shots while Rob Irving and Les Kent won three ends and scored 14 shots.
Steve Ryan and George Bradley were leading Gary McPhee and Man Mansfield 15-6.
John Carr and Ian Simpson lead Guy Ellery and Bob Freeman by the same score, 15-6.
After thirteen ends Glen Flanagan and Col Woods had the better of John Ward and Gordon Dickson, 11-4.
Ron Hornery and Rob Tinker were leading Greg Howlett and Margaret O’Connor 12-8.
After fourteen ends, Arthur Corbett and Mal Porter were in front 12-8 against Bruce Orr and John Dunn.
In a very close game, after fifteen ends, Graham Dixon and Graham Barby had a 21-11 lead over Col Mudie and Martin Tighe.
Saturday, January 12.
With the temperature again in the high thirties only three games of pairs were played.
In the closest game John Ward and Rob Irving just got over Ray Jones and John Carr, 22-15.
Steve Mills and Greg Huggins had a comfortable win against Arthur Corbett and Alan Affleck.
Martin Tighe and Gordon Dickson were too good for Bob Freeman and Col Hayward
The Jackpot wasn’t won this week and will carry over to next Thursday.
