STATE CLUB CHALLENGE
The clubs Gold Team played West Dubbo Bowling Club and came away with 2-1 rink victory. They have now qualified for the sectional play-offs to be held in Lithgow late November after being undefeated in winning Section 6.
In the fours match, played over 18 ends, The Parkes team of Geoff Freeman, Graham Barby, John Davies and Graham Fliedner played Glen Morrison, Paul Hagarty, Daniel Comolly and Anthony Taylor. The West Dubbo team started well and lead 10-3 after five ends, and then 17-8 after 11 ends. Their score of 17 included two five shot ends. The Parkes team dug deep, and with the ‘never say die’ attitude of skip (Graham Fliedner), won the next six ends to trail by one shot with one end to play. The last end of this match would decide the overall winner as both clubs had won one rink each. Parkes needed to score two shots on the last end to claim victory. Good bowls from John and Graham (Fliedner) gave Parkes the two shots and a very close victory 18-17.
The Parkes pairs team of Tom Casey and Col Hayward played Anthony Brown and Mark Thompson. Tom and Col had a good lead of 14-4 after nine ends. The West Dubbo pair won the next four ends to trail narrowly 12-14. Tom and Col rallied, winning the last two ends to claim victory 19-12.
John Corcoran played the singles match against Josh Andriske. Josh got out to a handy lead of 20-6. John matched Josh over the next 11 ends, however Josh was too strong and claimed victory 31-15.
The clubs Blue Team played Wellington on Saturday and suffered a 3-0 rink defeat.
In the fours match the Parkes team of Ron Murray, Mike Valentine, Greig Ball and Terry Hetherington held a handy 14-4 lead after 10 ends only to see the Wellington team rally to level the score at 18all after 17 ends. The last end saw Wellington score one shot to take the match 19-18.
The Parkes pairs team of Mick Craft and Keith MacRae held the Wellington pair 6all after eight ends. Wellington won the next two ends to lead by five shots and then held on to win the match 13-10.
Kevin Hynds played the singles match and was defeated 31-21.
The Blue Team then played Millthorpe on Sunday and scored a 3-0 rink victory.
The fours team of Ron Murray, Mike Valentine, Greig Ball and Terry Hetherington got away to a slow start and trailed 13-4 after seven ends. The Parkes team rallied, winning the next six ends to gain the lead 17-13, and then going on to win 22-16.
The Parkes pairs team of Bernie Mitchell and Keith MacRae started well and held a big lead of 16-4 after nine ends. They went on to win the match 21-12.
Kevin Hynds played the singles match for Parkes. This was a very close match with the lead changing several times before it was tied 21all. Kevin got away to lead 25-21, then the Millthorpe player (D McAlister) won the next four ends to lead 27-25. Kevin then won the last three ends to claim victory 31-27.
The Blue Team are still a chance of making the sectional play-offs. The result of the return match between Wellington and Millthorpe will determine which of the three teams progresses.
