G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHALLENGE.
On Sunday the Silver team went to Narromine to take part in the Club Challenge, this comprises of a team of 7 members to play Singles, Pairs and Fours. Our team consisted of Eddie McPhee playing Singles, Arthur Corbett and Craig Cusack playing Pairs and Geoff Freeman, Tom Casey, Mick Went and John Corcoran playing fours. I have been told that we won both the Singles and Fours but I think we lost the Pairs but two wins should give us the match. Well done fellas.
Our other team the Blue team had the Bye, there will be no play this weekend being the long weekend but both teams will be playing the following week. Check the board to see the teams and venues for the games.
MIXED PAIRS TOURNAMENT.
22 teams competed in the Mixed Pairs Tournament over the weekend playing five games of 14 ends in total. 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. After the Saturday games there were 5 teams with 3 wins. Come Sunday a couple of those teams played each other whilst a couple of others came unstuck. At the end of the competition, two teams had five wins and five teams had 4 wins. So the results had to be settled by shots up. This led to Ned and Nada Kurta of Molong/Cowra with five wins plus 60 shots and the Parkes pair of George Boatswain and Maureen Bailey with five wins plus 51 shots. So Ned and Nada took the money, with George and Maureen in Second place. This then led to five teams with 4 games to fight it out for the last 3 places.
A big thank you to Parkes Caravans for sponsoring the event and for Brian Collins for handing out the cash.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
22 Bowlers took part on a beautiful Thursday Spring day for a game of Bowls. The winners on the day being Dave Johnson and Geoff Freeman, the runners up being John Dunn and Graham Barby.
Saturday saw only 14 social bowlers due to the Mixed Pairs Tournament. The winners on the day being John Dunn and Craig Henry.
GENERAL NEWS.
Friday was a sad day for the members of the club, with the Funeral of Alan (Battery) Tolhurst. Battery was a long time member of the Club, winning many titles over the years and right to the last, still played social bowls on a Thursday. Our condolences go out to Fay and the Family.
The Club Classic Triples is coming up in mid October, so get your team together and put your names in the Blue book.
Both the Major and Minor Fours have reached the finals. Check the board to see when they are to be played, they both should be great games.
Well, thats it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
