In the first Round –Robin stage our teams will play off against teams from East Maitland, St. Johns Park and St. Mary’s RSL for the right to advance to the Semi-finals and hopefully the finals.
Our team has been selected and the three rinks will be:
Paul Henry, Mark Dwyer, John Davies and Garry Carberry.
Geoff Freeman, Tom Furey, Tom Casey and Graham Fliedner.
Peter McPhee, Dave Johnson, Col Hayward and Brett Frame.
Best of luck in the finals, here’s hoping for a good result.
Social Bowls.
Thursday, July 7.
Eighteen players turned out to play three games of Pairs and one of Triples.
In the Triples match John Corcoran, Gladrin Sun and Jim Blake got away to a good start against John ward, Ted Wright and Fred Dennis (a visitor from Parkes Railway/Diggers Club). After eight ends John Corcoran’s team lead 9-2 but after seventeen ends the lead was only 16-14 before John Corcoran’s team won three of the last four ends to win the match 20-15.
In a Pairs match, the first eight ends were won by single shots and Geoff Freeman and Bill Skinner had a lead, 5-3, against Col Mudie and Greg Huggins. Geoff and Bill went on to win eight of the last thirteen ends to score a win 18-13.
The other Pairs matches were won by Les Kent and Gordon Dickson against Rob Irving and Bob Freeman and Col Hayward and Graham Barby against John Hodge and Ray Jones.
Prize winners were Geoff freeman and Bill Skinner.
Saturday, July 9.
The Triples match was fairly close although the team of John Ward, Wally Grant and Jim Blake started well to lead Dave Johnson, John Carr and Les Kent 11-4 after eleven ends. John’s team fought back and with three ends to play were on one shot down, 13-14. However, Dave’s team won two of the last three ends to claim the match, 18 – 15.
In the pairs matches Col Mudie and Ray Jones had a win against Geoff Freeman and Gordon Dickson, while John Davies and Rob Irving had a convincing win over Tom Furey and Bob Freeman.
Prizes went to the Triples team of John Ward, Wally Grant and Jim Blake...
Sunday, July 10.
Twenty-eight players turned out for a social game of bowls followed by a great meal and some great raffle prizes.
On the green, the highlight of the day was the Triples match between teams skipped by Steve Turner and Dave Johnson.
Steve and his team of Liz Byrne and Gordon Dickson, started well and after nine ends lead 11-2. Dave, Phil Betts and Bill Skinner gradually got back into the match and after sixteen ends the scores were level at 12 all. Dave’s team had the better of the remaining ends and ran out winners 16-14.
It was a great day and even the weather was kind to us.
Proceeds will help the No 2 Pennants team to meet the costs of the trip to Ettalong at the end of the month.
Thanks to all those members and local businesses who provided the meat for the meal and some great prizes for the Raffle. Thanks also to Tom Furey for all his hard work cooking the meal.
