Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
Visit by Molong No. 3 Pennants Team.
The match against the Molong No 3 Pennants team will be played on Sunday, July 3, starting at 12 noon and to be followed by a BBQ in the evening. We hope as many as possible of our No.2 Pennants team will be available to get some valuable practice before the up-coming State Finals.
Social Bowls.
Monday, June 13 (Queens Birthday holiday).
Fourteen Bowlers played two games of Pairs and one of Triples.
All three games were very close with winning margins of 3,4 and 5.
Keith MacRae and Rob Irving had a win, 21 – 18 over Col Mudie and Ray Jones. After fifteen ends the score was level 13 all. And with one end to play Keith and Rob had a one shot lead and scored two shots on the last end for the win.
In the Triples match, with two ends to play, John Ward, Paul Henry and Bob Freeman lead John Hodge, Steve Turner and Ted Wright by 20 – 16. John Hodges team seemed to have the match sewn up when they scored five shots on the second last end to lead 21 – 20 but on the last end conceded five shots to go down 25 – 21.
In the other Pairs match Col Hayward and Geoff Freeman had a comfortable ten shot lead over Joe Davies and Mark Dwyer with two ends to play. Joe and Mark won the last two ends but could only score five shots and went down 22 – 17.
Prizes went to Col Hayward and Geoff Freeman.
Thursday, June 16.
A good field of 26 bowlers turned out to play five games of Pairs and one of Triples.
There were some high scoring games played with the closest result being the Triple match, won by Col Hayward, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins who defeated Brett “Baldy” Frame, Steve Ryan and Bob Freeman 21 – 16.
The closest game in the Pairs matches went to John Ward and George Bradley over Gladrin Sun and John Watson. John and George won eleven of the twenty-one ends and the final score was 23 -1 7.
The other Pairs matches were won fairly convincingly by Keith MacRae and Mal Porter, Joe Crowley and Rob Irving, John Hodge and Graham Barby and the team of Geoff Freeman and Bill Skinner. I believe that in that last match the “man of the match award” went to Les Kent who played magnificent bowls on a beaten side which should give him plenty of confidence in his up-coming Minor Singles match.
Prize winners were Mal Porter and Keith MacRae and the runners-up prize went to Graham Barby and John Hodge.
Saturday, June 18
A Minor Pairs Championship match was play and in addition twelve players turned out to play 3 games of Pairs.
In The Minor Pairs match Wally Austin and Bob Freeman started well and after three ends held a lead of 8 – 0 over John Hodge and Guy Ellery. Wally and Bob maintained the lead until the thirteenth end but John and Guy won seven of the last eight ends to win the match 25 – 16.
The scores in the match between Col Mudie and Joe Crowley and John Carr and Rob Irving were close for most of the game, and after sixteen ends the scores were level at 18 all .Four of the last five ends were won by Col and Joe who ran out winners 26 – 23.
Dave Johnson and Greg Huggins proved too strong for John Ward and Gordon Dickson, and in the other match Mark Dwyer and Wally Grant had a win over Tom Furey and Bill Skinner.
Prize winners on the day were Dave Johnson and Greg Huggins.
