Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
On Sunday 12 bowlers turned out and played three games of Pairs.
Rob Mahady(Qld) and Tom Cole played Colleen Kelly and Bruce Orr. Colleen and Bruce led all the way in winning the match 15-5.
Antonio Chulio and Steve Ryan played Peter McAuliffe and Phil Holland(WA). Peter and Phil played more consistent bowls and ran out comfortable winners 17-8.
Steve Turner and Dave Johnson were far too strong for Rob Irving and Greg Fisher, winning 24-9.
Voucher winners were Dave Johnson, Tom Cole, Rob Mahady and Phill Holland.
It was pleasing to see a number of the Elvis visitors to Parkes play on both Saturday and Sunday.
The jackpot was not won and now stands at $700. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
SOCIAL
The very welcome rain washed out Thursday social bowls.
32 bowlers turned out on Saturday playing two games of Triples and five games of Pairs.
The first triples game saw six visiting bowlers do battle. In a close contest Antonio Chulio, Fay Berry and John McKenzie defeated Alan Berry, Deb Carey and Joe Griffiths 21-16.
In the other triples game Col Woods, Rhona Went and Gary McPhee were too strong for Bob Freeman, Liz Byrne and Wally Austin, winning 29-22.
Ray Jones and Kevin Hynds had a convincing 31-17 win over Ron Fisher and John O’Malley.
Gordon Dickson and Col Hayward played Steve Ryan and Mike Valentine. Gordon and Col led 15-5 after 10 ends and held on to win 22-19.
Ron Hornery and John Ward finished strongly to defeat Max Tomkins and Greig Ball 23-11.
In a very close game Noel Nicholson and John Corcoran scored one shot on the last end to defeat Steve Mills and Arthur Corbett 20-19.
Three visitors featured in the final game when Lynn Coomb and Noel Gray combined well to defeat Sue Merryfield and John Hodge 20-14.
Major winners were Noel Nicholson and John Corcoran and the minor winners were three of our visiting bowlers Antonio Chulio, Fay Berry and John McKenzie.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
Will commence Thursday 16th January, with a free night. New players are welcome. Just phone the club on 68621446 to nominate a team.
DISTRICT TRIPLES
Two Parkes Bowling Club sides have made it through to the semi-finals which will be played at the Parkes Railway Diggers Club next Sunday. They are: Kevin Hynds, John O’Malley, Tony Bright and Peter McPhee, Tom Casey, John Corcoran. They will be up against teams from Forbes Bowling Club.
UPCOMING BOWLS EVENTS
District Fours nominations close on 19th January. This event will be played at Peak Hill on 1-2 February.
Australia Day mini carnival will be held on Monday 27th January with $1000 prize money. This is a mixed mufti event with teams of four. Cost is $15 per player, which includes a BBQ lunch. Nominations close on Friday 24th January.
