Here’s the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The second semi-final of the Major Triples was played on Thursday, November 2.
The team of Garry Carberry, Mark Dwyer and Peter McPhee played against Arthur Corbett, John Ward and Rob Irving. The early honours went to Garry’s team and after nine ends they had opened up a lead of eight shots, 14-6. Playing some great bowls, Arthur’s team fought their way back into the match and by the seventeenth end they had reduced the deficit to two shots and Garry’s team lead 18-16. Not to be outdone, Garry’s team found form again and, with the help of a six shot win on the twentieth end went on to win the match 30-21 and advance to the final.
Two Handicap Singles matches were played during the week.
On Thursday, Greg Howlett had a two shot handicap advantage over Mike Valentine and after seven ends Greg had a two shot lead on Mike, 6-4. From there on Greg took control of the match and ran out a convincing winner, 25-11.
On Saturday, with the help of a three shot handicap advantage, Martin Tighe went shot for shot against Ron Hornery and after thirteen ends Martin took the lead for the first time, 12-10. After seventeen ends the scores were locked at 14 all but on the next end Ron really found form and went on to win 25-15.

Thursday, November 2.
Twenty-two players (including two Visitors from Albury) turned out for four games of Pairs and one game of Triples
In the closest game of the day, Ron Hornery and John Keogh started well and it wasn’t until the eleventh ends that John Taylor and George Bradley took the lead for the first time, 11-10. Ron and John scored six shots on the next two ends to lead to lead by five shots, 16-11. The next five ends went to John and George and they had the lead, 18-16 but the next end went to Ron and John by four shots and, with two ends to play, they lead 20-18. Over the last two ends John and George managed eight shots to win the match 26-20.
Ray Jones and Jim Blake got Away to a good start in the match against Les Kent and John Carr and were never headed to run out winners 21-11.
Col Hayward and John Hodge were down 0-3, after two ends, against Arthur Corbett and Brett Frame. After thirteen ends Col and John had a slender lead, 13-10 but, on the next six ends, they scored thirteen shots to lead 26-10. The last two ends were won by Arthur and Brett but Col and John claimed the match 26-12.
In the other Pairs match, Warren Bevan and Ted Wright had a convincing win against Col Mudie and Rob Irving.
In the Triples match John Ward joined forces with our visitors from Albury, Terri Bowman and Max Wright, to play Keith MacRae, John Dunn and Col Woods with Keith’s team having a comfortable win.
The Prize winners on the day were Warren Bevan and Ted Wright and the Runners-up prize went to Ray Jones and Jim Blake.
Saturday, November 4.
Twenty Bowlers joined the eight players contesting championship matches, for two games of Pairs and two Triples.
John Carr and John Dunn went shot for shot with Ray Jones and Les Kent and after nineteen ends the scores were level, 14 all. On the twentieth end Ray and Les scored a single shot and it was still anybody’s game. On the last end Ray and Les scored three shots to run out winners 18-14.
In the other Pairs match, Rhona Went and Bill Skinner had a comfortable win against Col Mudie and Eileen Bradley.
In a close Triples match Col Woods Joe Crowley and Jim Blake started well against Steve Ryan, John Taylor and Gordon Dickson and, with the help of a six on one end, lead 15-6 after nine ends. After fifteen ends the scores were level 17 all and with three ends to play Col’s team lead 20-17. Steve’s team scored five shots on the last three ends to run out winners 22-20.
The other Triples match was won by Tom Furey, Gary McPhee and Greg Huggins, 22-16, against Col Hayward, Greg Howlett and George Bradley.
In a new innovation, thanks to a donation from a member who wishes to remain nameless, over the next ten Saturdays there will be a prize for the first resting /toucher of the day and the prize today went to Ron Hornery.
The Winners prize went to Ray Jones and Chris Dunn and the Runners-up were Greg Howlett and John Carr
Twilight Bowls.
It was great to see eighteen teams playing nine games of triples on what was a great night for bowling.
Our seven new teams had mixed fortunes on the night with Born Bowlers having a win, 12-5, against The Misfits and the Hard Rock Rollers winning 13-6 against Toyota Turtles.
Another of our new teams, Bowl and End had a great win, 15-6 against Happy Wanderers and Hodgey’s Heroes were not disgraced, going down 7-17 against the Golden Girls and Cousins played well but went down to Central West Glass 8-19.
Casey Surveying had a narrow win against We Wreck ’em ‘N’ We Fix ‘em – 14-11.
High Rollers were just too good for Loopy Loppers – 17-11.

Bowl Bros. against Pink.
Rebelle against Elvii.
It was a great night played in the right spirit and topped off with a great supper prepared by Tom Furey and his helpers – thanks fellas.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was not won last Friday and will be worth $1600. You have to be there to win it so come along and have a great pub style meal and may be go home with a bundle of cash in your pocket.
