Pennants To Start This Weekend

Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
Pennants Teams.
Teams for the 2016 Pennant season have been selected and are as follows:-
Grade 2 - First game at Lithgow City Bowling Club:-
Peter McPhee, Matt Parker, Tom Casey and Graham Fliedner.
Paul Henry, Steve Ryan, Mark Dwyer and John Davies.
Geoff Freeman, Arthur Corbett, Tom Furey and Colin Hayward.
Grade 5 – First game at Canowindra Bowling Club:-
John Hodge, Dean Searl, John O’Malley and Warren Bevan
Ron Hornery, Craig Henry, Ray Jones and John Corcoran.
Mike Valentine, John Carr, John Ward and Colin Mudie.
Grade 7 – First game at Peak Hill Bowling Club.
Bill Skinner, Gordon Dickson, John Lutton and Keith MacRae.
Wal Austin, Rob Irving, Wilber Harris and Greg Townsend.
George Bradley, Steve Mills, Bruce Orr and George Boatswain.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Two Major Singles match were played during the week.
The match between Mark Dwyer and John Carr was very close and after nineteen ends the scores were tied at 15 all. Over the next six ends Mark had the advantage and lead 23 – 17 starting the twenty-sixth end. The next six ends went to John before Mark scored one shot on the thirty-second end to tie the scores 24 all. Mark had the better of the final ends and scored a single shot on the thirty-ninth end to win the match 31 – 27.
The other match between Graham Barby and Wally Grant was won by Wally Grant 31 – 20.
Three Major Pairs match were also played.
The match between John Corcoran and Tom Casey and Craig Henry and Tom Furey was very close in the early ends. John and Tom Casey lead 7-4 after the first eleven ends had been won by single shots, even though Craig had eight “touchers” in the first seven ends. John and Tom Casey proved too strong over the final ten ends to win the match 17 – 10.
In other Major Pairs matches Col Hayward and Arthur Corbett proved too strong for Ron Hornery and Mike Valentine and Michael and Garry Went had a win over Nimo Mills and Wally Grant.
District Championships.
In the final of the District Triples Championship our club was represented by Col Hayward, John Davies and Graham Barby. The match was played at Condobolin against a team from that Club. In a fairly close game Col’s team went down by four shots. Congratulations to Condobolin on the win and also to Col, John and Graham on making the final.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, March 3.
In addition to a Major Singles match and the Major Pairs match, eighteen players turned out to play three games of Pairs and one game of Singles.
In spite of winning the first 2 ends to lead 6 – 0, Keith Macrae and John Taylor were gradually overhauled by John Corcoran and Gordon Dickson who went on to win the match 25 – 17.
John Carr and John Keogh had a close struggle with Brett Frame and Mick Craft in the early stages of their match and after fourteen ends the two Johns held a one shot lead, 14 – 13. Six of the last seven ends were won by Brett and Mick for them to run out winners 25 – 15.
The other Pairs match went to Mark Dwyer and John Hodge over John Ward and Joe Crowley.
In the Triples match Les Kent Jim Blake and Bob Freeman were beaten by Rob Irving and Ron and Alec Blake (Jim’s brothers visiting from Helensvale in Queensland).
The winner’s prize went to Ron and Alec Blake and Rob Irving and the runners up were Col Ward and Arthur Corbett
Saturday, March 5.
Sixteen bowlers played four games of Pairs.
After leading early, Tom Furey and Ron Fisher were gradually overhauled by John O’Malley and Bill Skinner. The scores were tied 17 all after eighteen ends but John and Bill won the final three ends to take the match 21 – 17.
Other matches went to Col Mudie and Ron Blake, John Hodge and Gordon Dickson and Rob Irving and Ray Jones.
Prize winners were Col Mudie and Ron Blake and the runners up prize went to Rob Irving and Ray Jones.
Sunday, March 6.
Three games of Pairs were played on Sunday evening.
Lyn and Steve Ryan had a win over Bruce Orr and Rob Irving. Guy Ellery and Bob Freeman were outplayed by John Ward and Gladrin Sun and the other match went to Geoff Leonard and Garry Phillips over Mike Phillips and George Bradley.
Prize winners were Bruce Orr and John Ward.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
Thursday, March 3.
On Thursday night eight games of Triples were played with two games ending in draws.
In their match against ROK FM, Three Amigos won the first two ends and maintained a lead, 9 – 6, with two ends to play. ROK FM came back to win the last two ends and tie the scores at 9 all.
The other drawn match saw High Rollers take the early lead before We Wreck ‘M N’ We Fix ‘M came back to lead 8 – 5 with three ends to play. The High Rollers scored single shots on the last three ends to level the scores at 8 all.
In another close match The Battlers scored a 9 – 6 win over Casey Surveying. The scoring was so close that nine of the 12 ends played were won by single shots.
Other winners were The Bushies, Elle, Central West Glass, Loopy Loppers No. 2 and Loopy Loppers No. 1.
The Lucky Winners prize went to The Bushies and the Lucky Losers prize was shared by The Three Amigos and ROK FM who played a draw.
Next week is the final round of competition for the Twilight Bowlers.
PENNANTS PRACTICE GAME.
On Friday, March 4, in the return match at Parkes Railway/Diggers Club, the home side won four of the six games played, however, the overall scores were tied at 90 all.
Thanks to the Railway Club for putting on a great night which I’m sure was enjoyed by all.

UMPIRES COURSE.
If you are interested in becoming a Bowls Umpire, a course is being arranged and you are welcome to join in. Contact any member of the Bowls Committee to obtain full details.
MEETING FOR MEMBRS.
Members are reminded the Board and Management have invited all club members to a get together at the Club on Monday, March 14 at 7.00 PM to answer any questions members may have in relation to the running of the club. If you have any queries about what has been happening or what future plans may (or should) be, come along and put your questions to the Board and Management.

Friday Night.Come along and buy the winning tickets in the “Early Birds” meat tray raffle at about 6.30pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, vouchers and cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
Great Pub style meals are available at reasonable prices from Mel’s Café.
The Badge Draw was won last week, and this week the draw is worth $900.
