CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The Final of the Club Minor Singles Championship was played on Saturday, October 21 and what a match it turned out to be. Steve Turner and Peter McPhee played a marathon forty ends before the winner was decided. Steve won the first four ends but Peter won the next four to level the scores, 6 all. From there on, neither player was able to take control of the match and the lead changed hands eleven times and after thirty-eight ends the scores were level, for the seventh time, 29 all. In an exciting fortieth end, Peter was holding one shot, to level the scores again, and with the final bowl of the match, drew the second shot he needed to claim the match 31-30. Congratulations to both players on a great game and to Peter, Minor Singles Champion for 2017.
During the week, two Handicap Singles matches were also played with similar results.
Ron Hornery, with a handicap advantage of three shots, played great bowls to narrowly defeat Tom Furey 25-21, and, Gladrin Sun also had a three shot advantage over Greg Howlett, but after Gladrin led 7-3 after three ends, Greg proved too strong winning 26-20.
