The 2011 pennant season gets under way this weekend with the No1, No6 and No7 sides in action. The new look No1 side will at home to West Dubbo and will be looking to get off to a good start against very strong opposition. The No 6’s travel to Peak Hill and will have to put their best foot forward as the Peak Hill boys are always a hand full especially on their own dung hill. Playing at home will be an advantage for our No7 side and they will also no doubt be looking for a win first up.

Thursday Bowls.
Not a huge field but the standard of play was very good as usual, with several of the heavyweights appearing. Best game was a bruising 19-16 win for Graham Barby and Greig Ball over John Corcoran and Tony Byrne. Colin Hayward and Wally Grant finished strongly defeating Baldy Frame and John Dunn 18-12. Ray Jones combined with John Hodge to completely out muscle Keith Mac Rae and John Keogh 29-10. The triples was an entertaining struggle, and coming out on top was Geoff Freeman, Merv Hennock and Tom Cole against Bruce Orr, Graham Dixon and John Edwards 24 – 18. Starters for this week will be Wally Austin and John Hodge.

Mid Week Business House Bowls.
Both nights business house competitions finished last week and both had exciting finishes. In the Wednesday night section Headless chooks finished first despite being soundly beaten by Poets Corner 19-7. They finished with 7wins + 94 winning on a count back from Marees Costumes 7w + 51, who had a chance of winning out right but unfortunatly were held to a thrilling 12all draw by High Rollers. Thursday evening section went down to a photo finish as the two top sides squared off against each other in a winner take all match. Telescope Tyres finished on top defeating arch rivals Wreck em and Fix em 10- 6 to clinch the trophy. Telescope Tyres finished with 8w+67 and Wreck-em having 7w+51. All teams are reminded that there will be a free night next week on Wednesday night; teams from both nights are urged to come along and enjoy a great way to finish the season.

Club Championship Matches.
In major singles action during the week Ricky Frame won 31-19 against Terry Hetherington. Saturday there was several major singles matches played, the toughest being a nail biting 31-28 win for Mick Went over a game Greig Ball. Ted Wright won 31-18 against the up and coming youngster Ben Townsend and Bruce Orr provided the first upset when he defeated former champion Robert Tinker 31-18. John Corcoran was in good form to defeat Tony Bright 31-18 and in a minor singles match Dave Johnson won 31-17 against Bernie Mitchell. There were also two major pairs matches contested and both were very close contests indeed. John Davies and Graham Barby were made to work very hard to overcome a very spirited challenge from Josh Mills and Paul Townsend, running out narrow 20-17 winners. Ricky Frame and Rem Henry pulled away over the closing stages to defeat Bob Risebourough and Kevin McGuire 23-16. As well as a big program of championship matches there were twenty players in for social bowls. Best game was a sensational tie as Colin Hayward and Merv Hennock grabbed the last two ends to force a 19all result against Ray Jones and Craig Henry.
Also providing plenty of excitement was the game on rink nine Alan Affleck and Wally Grant just pipping Ken Walsh and Maree Grant 17-16. In other games John Carr and Ryan McLuckie won 27-20 over John Keogh and Ron Murray. Terry Hetherington and Don Littlewood def Mark Dwyer and Bill Wyatt 27-13 and Colin Mudie and Steve Turner won 24-12 over John Hodge and John Edwards.

Sunday bowls.
A fine Sunday morning brought out a handy field of 17 for social bowls, there was three pairs and one triples played. Callan Job and Rose Mitchell won 18-14 against Bernie Mitchell and Elaine Burgess and Liz Byrne and Ryan McLuckie def Guy Bennett and June Burgess 13-9. Dave Worthington and Dave Johnson won the heavyweight battle 23-10 against Chris Dunn and Keith MacRae. In triples Mick Holland, Greg Fisher and Mick Gilliver won 13-7 against Tom Cole, Julie Hamilton and M. Gilliver. The jackpot was not won and now moves to $280 for next week.
