Furey Sucessful In Rookie Event

STATE ROOKIES SINGLES TITLES
This event is restricted to bowlers who have been playing competition bowls for less than two years.
The first round of the competition was held last weekend and our Tom Furey was successful in his two matches and will now proceed to the second round at Dubbo later this month. This extends Tom’s list of outstanding achievements since he commenced playing the game of bowls and he has become a great ambassador for our club, our town and bowls in general.
HANDICAP PAIRS
Other bowling commitments has delayed the playing of the preliminary rounds. The club would like to see all rounds played by Sunday, September 13.
Two matches were played over the weekend.
On Saturday Warwick and Matthew Parker played John Watson and Wally Grant (sub for Mick Craft). John and Wally had a eight shot handicap start and held an early 14-1 lead and they still had a good 20-9 lead after 10 ends. Warwick and Matthew started to get their game together and they stormed home to win 10 of the last 11 ends to win the match 29-22.
Sunday saw Bob and Geoff Freeman play Bernie Mitchell and Nimo Mills. Bob and Geoff received a three shot start and after 15 closely fought ends held a 16-11 lead. Bernie and Nimo fought back to level at score at 16 all after 19 ends. The penultimate end saw Bernie and Nimo score six shots to ensure their 22-17 win.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Rain prevented any social bowls on Thursday.
Saturday saw 20 social bowlers join the handicap pairs match players.
Man of the game Mike Valentine teamed with Steve Turner to outplay Bob and Geoff Freeman to the score of 27-9.
Ted Wright and John Ward were relentless in their 36-3 win over Ray Jones and John Carr.
Guy Ellery and Graham Dixon played Gordon Dickson and Ron Hornery. Guy and Graham led 12-9 before Gordon and Ron won the next five ends to lead 21-12. Guy and Graham fought back to trail narrow 19-21. Gordon and Ron then won the last four ends to take the game 31-19.
Yvonne Bekoris (Adelaide) and Rhona Went played Maureen Baillie and George Boatswain. Yvonne and Rhona held a good 18-5 lead after 14 ends. Maureen and George finished strongly in winning six of the last seven ends to go down narrowly 20-18.
Joe Crowley and Steve Ryan scored seven shots in winning the last three ends to record a come from 21-15 win over John Keogh and Keith MacRae.
Major prize winners were Joe Crowley and Steve Ryan with the minor prize winners being Mike Valentine and Steve Turner.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
Four bowlers played a game of consistency bowls with Mick Blunt coming out on top.
Lucky prize winner was Ian Nunn.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance of winning the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.

GENERAL
Mike’s Kitchen is open for Friday night meals. Raffles are also held with patrons having the chance to win meat trays, shopping vouchers and cash prizes. Members badge draw this Friday is $1800.
The Parkes Bowling & Sports Club AGM is being held at the club on Monday, September 21 commencing at 7:00pm.
