G;Day and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie,
The Leftie has left the building, and the Driving Lead has hopped on to the Stage for the next two weeks.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
One game on Major Singles and three games of Minor singles were played over the week, in the Major game, John Carr had a very close win over Greig Ball, 31/27, and in the Minor games Tom Furey had a comfortable win over Rob Irving, 31/11, Peter McPhee had a close win over young Matt Parker 31/22, and in a marathon, Steve Ryan had a good win over Joe Crowley 31/25, please get stuck into the Singles games, and get them over as soon as possible, whilst the weather is good.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Tuesday saw the first trial of Twilight Mufti Bowls, this is a mixed event, starting at 6PM, and going to about 8.30PM, due to the threatening weather, only 6 people enjoyed the night
Thursday saw 30 bowlers on the greens, with the winners being Mick Blunt and Clive Stibbard, runners up being Rob Irving and Mick Valentine, a couple of close games on the day saw Rob Irving and Mick Valentine beat Don Littlewood and Graham Dixon 25/19, Max Tomkins and Gary McPhee in a very close win over Col Woods and Ted Wright 16/14, and John Hodge and Col Hayward in a close win over John Keogh and John Corcoran 27/21.
Saturday afternoon saw 38 bowlers and 3 markers on the greens, the winners on the day being Graham Barby and Gary McPhee, runners up Steve Ryan and Marker Bernie Mitchell, and the Haircut to Keith MacRae, at least he has hair, a couple of close games on the day saw Greig Ball and Brett Frame beat Ron Fisher and John Corcoran 20/16, Gordon Dickson and Mark Dwyer beat John Carr and John Ward 21/17, and Ron Hornery and Kev Hynds beat John Hodge and Arthur Corbett 24/18.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
16 players tried out for the jackpot of $1000, but it was not won, some scores on the day saw Bob Freeman and Nimo Mills draw with Ian Simpson and Ted Wright 10/10, an interesting aspect of this game was the fact that Bob and Nimo won 8 ends to Ted Wrights 4, but Ted and Ian got a couple of fours to keep them in the game,Clive Stibbard and Dave Johnson had a good win over Trevor Miles and Steve Turner 22/7, Mal Porter and Keith Hutchinson had a close win over Dean Searl and Mick Blunt 13/11, and finally Elaine Turner and Graham Turner had a close win over Maureen Bailey and Allan Affleck 10/7.
UPCOMING EVENTS.
Round one of the Minor singles to be played by 24th Jan, the District Triples are being played at Peak Hill, we have several teams in this event, but to date I have not heard any results, Dont forget the Mini Carnival on Australia Day (Monday 26th) please enter your team of four in the blue book, it is a full day of Mufti Bowls, $15 a head, includes a sausage sizzle, and some serious prizes, it is open to anyone Male, Female or Mixed.
Members are reminded that the Footy Tipping season is now open for starters, please put your name on the board in the bar, remember the first prize is $1000
