CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Quite a busy week for the Club Championship players, with one Major Triples game, five Handicap Pairs games and four Handicap Singles.
The Major Triples game went to the team of Gary Carberry, Dave Johnson and Peter McPhee who lead all the way for a convincing win over Col Hayward, Tom Furey and Tom Casey. The winners advanced to the Semi-Finals.
Winners of the Handicap Pairs were:
John Corcoran and Wilbur Harris who had a narrow win against George Boatswain and Guy Ellery. The scores were level five times during the first 14 ends and after sixteen ends George and Guy lead 18 -17 but John and Wilbur outscored them, 8 – 2, on the last five ends to win the match 25 – 20.
Steve Ryan and Ron Hornery were too strong for Keith MacRae and Jim Blake.
After being down early in the match, Dave Johnson and George Bradley came home strongly to beat Steve “Nimo” Mills and Bernie Mitchell.
Graham Barby and Tony Byrne had a convincing win over Tom Furey and Gary McPhee.
Chris Dunn and Gordon Dickson proved too strong for Wally Austin and Bob Freeman.
Handicap Singles.
In a marathon game, playing great bowls, Mike Valentine and Gary McPhee swopped the lead on a number of occasions and, for the fifth time, the scores were level 24 all after 31 ends before, on the next end, Mike scored the shot he need to win the match 25 – 24.
In another close game, George Bradley had a narrow win over Les Kent, 26 – 23.
Steve Turner had a win against John Watson.
Gordon Dickson proved too strong for John Ward.

Thursday, October 20.
On a day made very difficult by the strong and cold wind, in addition to the Championship matches, five games of Pairs were played.
In the closest game of the day, Mal Porter and Mick Blunt lead for most of the match to defeat Gladrin Sun and Greg Huggins 21 – 15.
John Davies and Col Woods took the lead after five ends and went on for a win over Tom Furey and Joe Crowley.
Col Mudie and Rob Irving had a win against John Ward and Ray Jones.
John Hodge and John Dunn had a convincing win over Mike Valentine and Wally Grant.
Col Hayward and Ron Fisher proved too good for John Corcoran and John Carr.
The prize winners on the day were Chris Dunn and Gordon Dickson and the Runner-Up Prizes went to John Davies and Col Wood.
Saturday, October 22.
In addition to the Championship matches, two games of Pairs and one of Triples were played.
Col Mudie and Joe Crowley played John Carr and Chris Dunn and scores were very even over the early ends and after eight ends John and Chris had a lead of 8 – 7. Scores remained very close and after fourteen ends the score was 14 all. With one end to play John and Chris lead 18 – 17 but Col and Joe won the last end by one shot to tie the match 18 all.
The other singles match went to Tom Furey and Martin Tighe over Col Woods and Rob Irving.
In the Triples match, the team of John Dunn, Ray Jones and Greg Huggins had to battle all day but eventually had a win against Ron Hornery, Mick Blunt and Bob Freeman by the narrow margin of 19 -16.
Prizes on the day went to Dave Johnson and George Bradley with the Runner-up prizes going to John Corcoran and Wilbur Harris.
1300 Bugman Barefoot Bowls – Thursday, October 20.
We had a great roll up of eighteen teams for the second round of the Twilight Bowls season.
There were two very close matches and it was good to see a couple of our new teams, The Royal and The Happy Wanderers being so competitive, although sadly going down by one shot each to The High Rollers and The Golden Girls respectively. The High Rollers won 15 – 14 and The Golden Girls got up 11 – 10.
Other winners were:
The Butcher Boys against Bowl 4 Beer.
Pink against Rebelle.
We Wreck ‘em ‘N’ We Fix ‘em against Three Amigos.
The Bushies against 1300 Bugman.
The Girls against Elvi.
Loopy Loppers against Casey Surveying.
Bowl Bros. against Central West Glass.
Thanks again to the organisers and the cooks for the after game snacks.
