G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw 22 bowlers take to the greens for a game of bowls, the day was cool and windy but some good bowls were played. The winners on the day were Norm Keane and Col Hayward, runners up being Noel Nicholson and Phil Collins (just can't stay away).
Saturday saw 28 bowlers on the greens, with the winners being Colin Woods and Steve Ryan, runners up being Ron Murray and Kevin Hynds.
CHAMPIONSHIP BOWLS.
The Final of the Major Triples was played on Saturday, and as forecast was a ding dong battle. The team of Paul Henry, Garry Went and Brett Frame getting up over Craig Cusack, Mick Went and Rob Corbett 20/16, with the ends being 13/12 to Baldy. They just had a couple of bigger scoring ends.
Sunday afternoon saw three games of Major Fours, Mick Craft, Dave Worthington, Ron Hornery and Tony Bright had a comfortable win over Tom Casey, Mark Dwyer, Paul Henry and Brett Frame 22/12. Gary Mcphee, Norm Keane, John Hodge and Rob Tinker also had a comfortable win over Max Tomkins, Graham Dixon, Garry Went and John Corcoran 27/15. And in the game of the afternoon, Dave Johnson, Guy Bennett, Craig Henry and Steve Turner had a last bowl of the day win over Tom Cole, Peter McPhee, Greg Fisher and Eddie McPhee 20/19.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
The Jackpot has been won,$1000 goes to 4 lucky bowlers.12 bowlers fronted for a chance to win on a sunny Sunday Morning.Part of the winning team was one bowler who has never put a bowl down in his life, I bet he is now hooked on bowls, good on you all.
SUNDAY MIXED MUFTI BOWLS.
6 people fronted for a great afternoons game of mixed mufti bowls. Apparently the score did'nt show the the real game but it was a good afternoon. A reminder to everyone interested in playing Sunday Afternoon bowls, it will be played every Sunday. Names in by 12.30pm, for a 1pm start, just be at the club or ring your name in.
GENERAL NEWS.
Members are reminded of the Club's Annual General Meeting on Monday Night,10th September at 7pm. Please come along and have your say and vote for your new board. Also the Men's A.G.M. will be held immediately after the Club's A.G.M. The men are still looking for a Bowls Secretary and Chairman of the Selection Committee. So if anyone can see their way to filling one of these positions please see a Board Member so they can be nominated from the floor.
Nominations for the Mixed Pairs are now open. This event will be held on the weekend of 22/23 September. Men and Ladies get your partner and enter your team in the Blue Book, plus nomination and Money in the envelope in the Box in the Bar.
The Club Challenge is on but the draw,(which is done in Sydney) and the venues have not been notified as yet. All the games will be played on a Sunday Afternoon. Our teams have not been selected yet but watch the board to see the teams and draw.
