Well here we go for another weeks news from the Bowlie. The weather has been very kind, and the bowlers have taken advantage of the conditions to get stuck into the various Club Championship games, more later.
BUSINESS HOUSE BOWLS.
The last week of bowls is tonight and tomorrow.The results from last week were, Wednesday winner Mamre, not enough teams for second place. Thursday Thrown Together, runner up Uniting Church.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, 26 bowlers took part in a very pleasant days game, the winners being Bruce Deland and Geoff Freeman, runners up Alan Tolhurst Terry Hetherington and Arthur Corbett.Some scores from the day,Alan Tolhurst Terry Hetherington and Arthur Corbett beat Ken Bale ( a visitor from Laureton) Wally Grant and Eddie McPhee 22/20, Noel Nicholson and Wally Austin had a good win over Joe Kennedy and Col Mudie 18/15.
Saturday saw 32 Bowlers on the greens, Winners were Tony Bright and Brian Collins, runners up Col Hayward and Robert Tinker (marker). Some scores from the day,Brian Collins and Tony Bright in a close win over John Edwards and Jim Buckley 17/16, Bruce Orr and Eddie McPhee in a nail biter over Max Tomkins and John O'Malley 26/25, and Wes Westcott and Geoff Freeman also a nailbiter over Col Woods and Guy Bennett 15/14.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHOP GAMES.
Minor Pairs, Father and son Wally and Jonno Austin were too good for Ron Murray and George Boatswain, winning 23/16, and in a Major Pairs game Graham Barby and Joe Davies had a big win over John Hodge and Robert Tinker 28/15 .
MAJOR SINGLES.The Major singles are getting into their stride, with some very close games, Kevin Hynds beat Wally Grant 31/30, Mark Dwyer had a good win over Mike Parkes 31/24, Noel Nicholson had a big win over Tom Casey 31/11, Robert Corbett had a mighty struggle before beating Greig Ball 31/28, Col Hayward had a very big scare before beating Col Mudie 31/27, and Arthur Corbett had a comfortable win over John O;Malley 31/18.
SUNDAY MORNING BOWLS.
16 bowlers took part in the chase for $1000, again it was not won, so now this Sunday it is up for grabs, with the margin down to 5 , surely it can't last much longer.
PENNANTS.
The No2 pennant team took on the strong Narromine team in their second game of the draw, this was their first game at home, and a big crowd was on hand to see them get a good result, winning 4/2, although they lost two rinks, Col Hayward led his side to a big win , and so took out the aggregate, they have a bye next week, and there will be no Pennants over Easter, so we will have to wait 3 weeks for their next game.
On the 1st April the Parkes No5 team will take on the Forbes outfit in a trial game, while the Parkes No6 will take on the Parkes No7 in a trial game, with their first round games set down for 15th April, so it's all happening.
GENERAL NEWS.
The Championship games are really streaming along, it's good to see players getting into their events, making hay while the sun shines, keep up the good work.
