Club Championships
On Saturday, August 25, Wilbur Harris and Greg Huggins fought out the first semi-final of the Minor Singles Championship.
Greg started strongly and after four ends lead 8-2 but Wilbur scored thirteen shots on the next five ends to open up what proved to be a winning lead, 15-8. Greg tried hard to get back into the game but Wilbur maintained his lead and eventually drew away to win the match 31-18 and advance to the final where he will play the winner of the other semi-final, either Guy Ellery or Gary McPhee.

Thursday, August 23.
Five games of Pairs were played with one very close game and some fairly wide margins in the other four.
Col Mudie and Gordon Dickson started well against Keith MacRae and John Watson and after ten ends had a seven shot lead. Over the next five ends, Keith and John scored twelve shots to be five in front with six ends to play. Col and Gordon re-found form and with one end to play lead 22-19. Keith and John won the last but could not quite bridge the gap and Col and Gordon won the match 22-21.
In other matches;
Geoff Freeman and Jim Blake 21 – Col Hayward and Ian Simpson 12.
John Dunn and Greg Huggins 23 – John Keogh and Bob Freeman 12.
John Ward and Graham Barby 33 – Greg Howlett and Steve Mills 14.
Ron Hornery and George Bradley won eleven of the twenty-one ends against Rob Irving and John Carr but Rob and John played some great bowls to win the match 25-14.
The Winning Rink Prize went to Col Mudie and Gordon Dickson and the Runners Up were John Ward and Graham Barby.
Saturday, August 25.
With the threat of rain and a strong wind blowing only ten bowlers braved the elements but managed to complete their games without getting wet.
Col Mudie and Jim Blake lost the first five ends but were able to defeat John Carr and Ray Jones 22-16.
The Triples match was close all day and with one end to play John Ward, Rob Irving and Gordon Dickson were level with Steve Mills, John Dunn and George Bradley – seventeen all. The last end was also very close and in fact needed a measure to decide the result and John’s team got home, 18-17, by about 3 mms.
Sunday, August 26.
The rain finally came on Sunday and no bowls were played.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw was not won on Friday might and is worth $1,500 this week and will be drawn on Friday night after the raffle, shortly after 8.00 PM. Good “Pub style” meals are available so come along for a great night and a chance to win the badge draw or a meat tray or voucher.
