Parkes bowlers dominated district singles played over the weekend. In the blue ribbon open event played at Peak Hill Robert Corbett scored a thrilling 31-30 win over the very promising young Forbes lad Mitchell Andrews.
Robert jumped to a handy lead and led for most of the journey but with the scores at 28-24 Roberts way, Mitchell dug deep winning the next few ends to hold a match winning 30-28 lead. However Robert rallied holding two shots and with his last bowl drew a third to seal a hard fought victory.
In the senior singles it was an all Parkes affair, Colin Hayward was successful with a 31-22 victory over Dave Worthington, scores were close till mid way through when Colin grabbed a match winning break and was able to go on and win his fifth senior singles title.
In the presidents singles played at Forbes, Wally Grant has won through to the final and will play Mick Connolly of Forbes next Saturday, all the best Wally.
Thursday Games.
Plenty of action Thursday arvo with social mufti and club championship matches sharing the green.
In major singles Mick Went had to pull out all stops to overcome a spirited challenge from Wally Grant.
Down 27-29 Mick won three ends straight picking up four shots for a nail biting 31-29 victory.
Two minor singles matches produced very close results; Guy Bennett produced a whirlwind finish to snatch victory from Greg Fisher 31-26 and Laurie Westcott outlasted Ron Murray 31-26 in a tight contest.
In major pairs played earlier in the week Colin Mudie and John Corcoran defeated Joe Crowley and Alan Afflick 24-14.
In social bowls John Ward and Bruce Orr defeated Colin Mudie and Tom Cole 26- 21; John Corcoran and Rob Tinker proved too strong for Arthur Corbett and Greig Ball winning 25-10.
The closest game was a 19-14 win for Steve Ryan and Terry Hetherington over Geoff Freeman and Mike Parkes. And in a tough triples contest Col Hayward, John Dunn and Mike Valentine defeated Garry McPhee, Noel Nicholson and Bob Freeman 25-13.
In charge of Thursday afternoon social bowls this week will be Terry Hetherington and Mick Craft.
Twilight Bowls.
There were some very close games played last week and the best was a thrilling 12 all draw between High Rollers and Uniting Church.
Other games to stand out were, We Wreck Em 14- 13 winners against Headless Chooks and Services just getting up 13-11 over Fletcher Ford.
One major pairs match was played Friday afternoon and here Rob Tinker and John Hodge advanced to the third round with a comfortable 25-15 win over Keith MacRae and Mick Craft.
Saturday Bowls.
Despite many district matches being played, there were still 20 starters for Saturday arvo bowls.
Heading the billing was a couple of club championship matches both turning out to be hard fought encounters.
In major singles John Carr finished the stronger and managed to tough out a fine 31-26 win against a game Garry McPhee.
In minor singles after a keen struggle John Hodge emerged a 31-25 winner against Terry Hetherington.
There were four games of social pairs played and highlights were two exciting draws.
Dave Johnson and Sheldon Orr came home at a rate of knots to force a 24 all draw with Noel Nicholson and Kevin Hynds and Geoff Freeman and Greg Townsend blew a big lead just holding on for a 20 all result against Dave Buggie and Joe Crowley.
Biggest winners on the day were Ben Townsend and Alan Afflick as they defeated Mike Valentine and Wally Grant 23-12 and on the next rink Mike Parkes and Wally Austin combined well to defeat Dave Worthington and Guy Bennett 26-18.
There will be major and minor singles matches this weekend bringing together a couple of interesting clashes.
I major action the match between Eddie McPheee and Graham Fliedner looks to be a beauty as is the clash between Dave Worthington and Greig Ball.
In minors the top billing would be the Wally Grant and Mick Craft game and John O’Malley and Wilber Harris also looks a good match on paper.
These matches and social bowls will be in the safe hands of Colin Mudie and John O’Malley.
