Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Last Thursday there were twenty bowlers who took part with three rinks of social bowlers and one rink of major triples.
Championship Match
In the major triples, Greg Huggins, Gordon Dickson and Bernie Mitchell played Graham Barby, Keith MacRae and John Davies. After eight ends John Davies scored 10 , Bernie Mitchell 7. From this point John took control of the game and after 25 ends the score was John 37, Bernie 10.
Social Bowls
In the pairs, Joe Crowley and Garry McPhee played Ian Simpson and Colin Hayward in a very close game. Garry led throughout and on eighteen ends, he led 17 to 9. In the next four ends Colin picked up 8 shots to Garry’s 1. The final score being Garry 18 and Colin 16.
In the other pairs game, Jim Blake and Greg Howlett 10 were defeated by Trevor Harvey and John Carr 30 who led all the way.
In the triples Rob Irving, Bob Freeman and Colin Mudie 29 defeated John Watson, John Taylor and John Ward 24. In this game after six ends, the score was 10 all. After 17 ends 21 all. From this point, Colin led for the rest of the game.
Winners for the day: Garry McPhee and Ian Simpson
Runners Up: Trevor Harvey and John Carr
Saturday Social Bowls
There were 16 bowlers playing four games of pairs. Joe Crowley and Rhona Went 16, Chris Dunn and Garry McPhee 19. In this game the scores were level after seven, nine and fifteen ends when Garry took control winning 7 shots to 4 on the last six ends to run out winners.
Gordon Dickson and Mark Dwyer 22 defeated Rob Irving and Greg Townsend 17. While the scores were close, Mark led from start to finish.
Steve Mills and Colin Hayward 31 defeated Martin Tighe and Joe Davies 15 after leading all the way. In the only other game Bob Freeman and Ray Jones 22, Phil Betts and John Ward 11. Ray and Bob led all the way in this game.
Bowls starters are reminded that cards are to be marked as Championship or social together with the date.
Sunday afternoon mini carnival was generously sponsored by Century 21 Hunter Real Estate. In beautiful winter weather, the format of 2 Bowl pairs, 3 games of 12 ends proved popular. This was a great success with 44 players.
