Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Things were very quiet on the greens this week. No Championship matches were played, the District Pennants season is over and the sudden arrival of winter conditions kept a lot of Social Bowlers at home..
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, May 10.
In the closest match of the day John Ward and John Watson got off to a flyng start to lead Gladrin Sun and Rob Irving 8-0 after three ends. The two John’s continued to build on their lead and, though Gladrin and Rob won the last five ends, they ran out winners 27-22,
The Triples match followed a similar pattern and ended with a similar margin.
Greg Howlett, Jim Blake and Bob Freeman lead 7-0 after five ends against Trevor Harvey, Steve Rogan (visiting from Kew on the Mid-North Coast) and Col Woods. Greg’s team led throughout the match and won 18-12.
The other Pairs match was won by Ray Jones and John Dunn over Col Mudie and Joe Crowley 20-11.
Saturday, May 12.
Once again, only two games of Pairs and one game of Triples were played.
Ron Hornery and Les Kent came up against Arthur Corbett and Rob Irving with Ron and Les leading 8-0 after four ends. Arthur and Rob gradually got back into the game and after seventeen ends the margin had been reduced to three shots, 24-21. Ron and Les scored three on the next end but Arthur and Rob replied, scoring six over the two ends to level the scores 27 all with one end to play. Ron and Les scored one shot on the last end to win 28-27.
Tom Furey and Ray Jones had a comfortable win against Gary McPhee and Gordon Dixon.
The Triples game resulted in a comfortable win to Col Hayward, John Taylor and Rob Tinker against John Ward, Col Mudie and Jim Blake.
Winners on the day were Tom Furey and Ray Jones.
