Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
ZONE 4 JUNIOR SELECTION
Matthew Parker (Parkes Bowling & Sports) and Doug Miller (Parkes Railway Diggers) have been selected in the Zone 4 team which will compete in the State Inter-Zone 7-a-Side Championships being played at Figtree on 23-24 August 2014. They will team together in the Pairs. We wish Matthew and Doug and the rest of the team all the best in their quest for State honours.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP MAJOR TRIPLES MATCHES
Three Major Triples were played on Saturday which saw two big wins and one very close match.
Terry Hetherington, Dave Buggie and Keith MacRae played Paul Henry, Garry Went and Brett Frame. After 12 ends Terry, Dave and Keith held a narrow 10-8 lead and it looked like the match would be a close battle. This wasn’t to be as Terry, Dave and Keith won 9 of the next 11 ends to establish an unassailable28-15 lead at which point the match was stopped.
Matthew Parker, Warwick Parker and Michael Went played John Dunn, Max Tomkins and John Corcoran. Matthew, Warwick and Michael only lost two of the first 12 ends and led 27-4. This included one maximum six shot end. The next 12 ends were more closely contested however team Went had too big a lead and went on to win 38-13.
The last match saw Geoff Freeman, Graham Barby and Graham Fliedner up against Wilbur Harris, Dean Searl and Warren Bevan. This was a very close match from start to finish. The score was 13all after 15 ends. The last 10 ends saw each team win five ends. Team Fliedner held a 21-18 lead after 24 ends. The last end was very tense with Dean playing two very good bowls for team Bevan to hold two shots. The last four bowls by the skips failed to alter the head which gave the win to team Fliedner 21-20. This was a very tight match with some exceptional bowls played, particularly by Warren.
This event has now reached the semi-final stage. Keith MacRae’s team will play Michael Went’s team and the other match will see Graham Fliedner’s team up against Arthur Corbett’s team.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Only 8 bowlers braved the weather to play social bowls on Thursday.
John Dunn and Mike Valentine played Bob Freeman and John Corcoran. John and Mike held a narrow 12-11 lead after 12 ends. Bob and John could only win three of the last nine ends, which saw John and Mike win 25-17.
Alan Affleck and Col Mudie only lost six ends in their 30-10 win over Terry Hetherington and John Ward.
Prize winners on the day were John Dunn and Mike Valentine.
20 bowlers played five games of social pairs on Saturday.
Bob Freeman and Steve Mills dominated the ends in their 19-13 win over Wes Westcott and Bernie Mitchell.
Valma Westcott and Ron Murray survived a late comeback from Bill Skinner and Allan Wright to win a very close game 21-20. Valma played very good bowls to be named player of the match.
John Hodge and Joe Crowley won the last three ends to defeat Alan Affleck and Ron Hornery 19-14.
Greig Ball and Tom Casey led all the way in their 22-12 win over John Carr and Dave Johnson.
The last game saw Ted Wright and John Ward play Bruce Deland and Mike Valentine. This was a very close game with the score 14all after 15 ends. Ted and John then won five of the last six ends to record a 27-17 win.
The major winners were the major triples team of Terry Hetherington, Dave Buggie and Keith MacRae. The minor winners were John Hodge and Joe Crowley.

PENNANT TEAM FUNDRAISING DAY
Sunday saw 30 bowlers play in a trial game for the Grade 5 side prior to their trip to Tamworth to participate in the State titles and a game of social triples.
The composite Grade 1 team won two rinks to one and the aggregate 69-42. This was a good hit out for the boys and we wish them well in Tamworth.
Greig Ball, Dave Buggie, Mark Dwyer and Col Mudie had a good 21-11 win over Mike Valentine, Greg Townsend, Dave Johnson and Tom Casey.
Geoff Freeman, John Hodge, Graham Barby and Col Hayward overcome a slow start to completely dominate the second half of their match against Mick Craft, John Carr, Arthur Corbett and Keith MacRae. They won 10 of the last 11 ends to record a 31-10 victory.
Matthew Parker, Greg Fisher, John O’Malley and Warren Bevan played Terry Hetherington, John Ward, John Corcoran and Brett Frame. Team Bevan led 10-7 after 12 ends, however team Frame won 8 of the last 9 ends to win 27-11.
The social game saw Ron Murray, Alan Affleck and Chris Dunn recover from an early deficit to dominate the latter stages of their clash with Bob Freeman, Guy Ellery and John Dunn. The final result was a 26-13 win to Ron, Alan and Chris.
The club would like to thank John Carr, Mark Dwyer and Peter McVicker for their support of the day.
