Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
Tom Furey is the 2015 minor singles club champion. Tom defeated Gary McPhee in a high quality match last Saturday. Gary won the first two ends before Tom settled into the match and won the next five ends to lead 9-3. Gary got within one shot of Tom before Tom again established a six shot lead. Gary fought back to trail by three shots 14-11. From this point Tom took control of the match and only lost four ends as he continued to play excellent bowls to eventually take the match 31-17. Congratulations to both players for their efforts in reaching the final.
The win was a great achievement for Tom as he only started playing competition bowls 12 months ago and I am sure we will see Tom achieve higher bowling honours in the future.
The second minor pairs semi final was also played on Saturday when Bernie Mitchell and George Boatswain played Steve Turner and Wilbur Harris. Steve and Wilbur had a good start and led 14-4 after nine ends. Bernie and George tried hard but could not reduce the margin with Steve and Wilbur still holding a 22-12 lead after 17 ends and going on to win the match 27-13. My spies tell me that Steve played great bowls and clearly won the man of the match. Steve and Wilbur will now play Nimo Mills and Tom Furey in the final which should be a very close tussle.
PENNANTS
24 bowlers played in a practise match for our Grade 7 team on Sunday. The three games were very close and highly entertaining. Results of the games with the Grade 7 players shown first were:

Ray Jones and John Dunn led all the way in their 20-10 win over Les Kent and Mike Valentine.
Bob Freeman and John Ward jumped out to a big early lead and went on to defeat Allan Wright and John Hodge 25-11. The two John’s informed me that Bob played great bowls in a man of the match performance.
In a very close and low scoring game John Watson and Col Hayward scored four shots on the last end to record a 17-14 win over Alan Affleck and Keith MacRae.
Bill Skinner and Craig Henry only lost three ends in their 31-8 win over Joe Crowley and John Carr.
Prize winners were Bob Freeman and John Ward.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
24 bowlers played six games of pairs. Three very close games highlighted the day.
Rob Irving and Col Mudie won the last two ends to record a come from behind 24-23 win over Alan Affleck and John Ward.

With the score 18 all after 17 ends John and Warren scored three shots to lead 21-18 with three ends to play. Les and Col scored one shot on each of the last three ends to draw the game 21 all. Les and Col won the ends 11-10.
John Dunn and Geoff Freeman played Graham Dixon and John Davies. Graham and John led 8-2 before John and Geoff won nine of the next twelve ends to lead 20-12 with two ends to play. Some badly directed weighted shots by John Dunn and Geoff and one great bowl from John Davies saw Graham and John pick up seven shots to trail by one shot with one end to play. John and Geoff held two shots before John Davies played other good bowl to move the jack and Graham and John scored one shot to draw the game 20 all. John and Geoff won the ends 11-10.
