CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The final of the Mixed Pairs were played on Thursday evening.
Gwenda Carty and Col Hayward played Cherie Frame and Robert Corbett. The scores were tied 6all after seven ends. Gwenda and Col then scored seven shots on the next end to lead 13-6. They increased their lead to 20-9 after 14 ends and held on to win the match 22-16. Interesting to see a tied end, 0-0 scored, in this match.
The second semi-final of the Handicap Pairs was played on Saturday with Greig Ball and Tom Casey giving a three shot start to Norm Keane and Mike Valentine. Norm and Mike had a great start, winning nine of the first thirteen ends and established a big lead of 19-7. Greig and Tom won the next five ends, including a six shot end, to level the score 19all. Norm and Mike regained the lead 20-19 with two ends to play. Greig and Tom finished the stronger, scoring three shots on each of the last two ends, to win the match 25-20. They will play Gordon Dickson and Col Hayward in the final.
Players are reminded that the Handicap Singles will be played over next weekend, 16th and 17th November, with nominations closing today, 13th November.

SOCIAL
Thursday saw 22 bowlers playing four games of pairs and one triples.
In the triples match Greig Ball, Gordon Dickson and Keith MacRae played Alan Hockey, Allan Wright and Mike Valentine. Alan, Allan and Mike held a narrow lead 17-14 after 15 ends. Keith then gave some instructions to his team, which saw them score 15 shots on the next five ends, and they ran away with the match 29-19. It is great to see Alan Hockey back on the green after a lengthy absence.
Bill Skinner and Col Mudie played Noel Nicholson and John Corcoran. This match was only decided on the last two ends when Noel and John picked up six shots to win the match 24-17.
John Keogh and Joe Crowley were too strong for Rob Irving and Wally Austin, running out winners 27-14.
Gary McPhee and John O’Malley played Bob Freeman and Norm Keane. Gary and John got out to a handy lead of 21-10 and held on to win 22-16. Also good to see John back playing after his recent health concerns.
The last match saw a maximum eight shot end scored. John Hodge and John Carr scored it on the eleventh end of their match against Tony Byrne and Kevin Hynds. At this point of the match the two John’s held a commanding 20-3 lead. Tony and Kevin fought back winning seven of the last ten ends. However at the end of the match they were eight shots behind, losing to the two John’s 27-19.
Thursday’s major prize winners were John Keogh and Joe Crowley and the minor winners were John Hodge and John Carr.
On Saturday 18 bowlers played three games of pairs and one game of triples.
The triples match saw Bob Freeman, Ron Hornery and Dave Johnson play Tom Cole, Gordon Dickson and Keith MacRae. The score was 15-14 in favour of Bob, Ron and Dave after 15 ends, they then dominated the last few ends to run out winners 28-15.

Liz Byrne and John Carr played Gwenda Carty and John Ward. Gwenda and John got out to a lead of 14-6, but from then on it was all Liz and John. They won nine of the last ten ends and ran out victors 25-16.
