CHARITY DAY.
On Sunday, May 6 it was great to see 66 Bowlers and their supporters at the Club for the Steve Nimo Mills Can Assist Charity Day.
A great turn-out of our own members, Bowlers from the Railway Club, other visiting Bowlers and many part time and first time bowlers had a great day on the greens and generously supported Nimo in raising $5,143.70 to help Can Assist continue the great work they do in helping Cancer victims and their families.
Since being diagnosed with asbestos related Cancer in December last year, Nimo has spent a lot of his time and energy getting this event off the ground and ensuring it was a success even down to losing his trade mark hair style and beard and we are all grateful for his efforts and God willing we hope to see a repeat next year.
A great number of businesses co- sponsored the event with Nimo and our thanks go to:
Dwyers Fresh.
Byrnes Clothing.
Janice Cassidy.
Stephan, The Barber.
Nangar Jewellers.
Dunford’s Chemist.
Sport’s Power.
The Star Hotel.
Forbes Central Butchery.
Parkes Services Club.
Parkes Leagues Club.
Parkes Bowling and Sports Club.

We would also like to thank the many people who donated prizes for the raffle and the many volunteers who helped out in organising the event – your efforts are greatly appreciated. I would like to make special mention of Graham Barby who did a great job organising the Bowls matches for the day, the ladies from Can Assist who spent all day selling raffle tickets and collecting donations, Pat Cooney and Chris Dunn who prepared the lunch and the Staff at the club who kept us all supplied with liquid refreshment.
All in all a great day and a great result for Nimo and everyone who supported the day.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, May 3.
A good field of twenty-six bowlers played five games of Pairs and a Triples match.
Brett Frame and Greg Huggins got away to an early lead of 4-0 and it wasn’t until the tenth end that John Davies and Col Woods gained the lead 7-6. After the fourteenth end, Brett and Greg had regained the lead and were never headed to run out winners 18-14.
Trevor Harvey and Gordon Dickson were down 13-3 against John Ward and John Watson after thirteen ends. From there on Trevor and Gordon stormed home winning six of the last eight ends and the match, 21-15
In other matches;
Col Mudie and Jim Blake were just too good for Gary McPhee and George Bradley, 21-17.
John Dunn and Ray Jones proved too strong for Ted Wright and Ian Simpson.
Guy Ellery and Martin Tighe had a fairly comfortable win against Ron Hornery and Graham Barby.
The Triples match went to Keith MacRae, Greg Howlett and Bill Skinner, 21-15, against Geoff Freeman, Rob Irving and Bob Freeman.
The prize for the day went to the winning Triples team and the Runners-up prize went to Col Mudie and Jim Blake.
Saturday, May 5.
On a great day for Bowls, twenty-four Bowlers turned out to play six games of Pairs.

Both teams scored three shots on the next two ends and with three ends to play the scores were again level, 15 all. The last three ends were very close but Keith and Jim scored 2 shots to 1 to win the match 17-16.
Col Hayward and George Bradley were down 3-12 after eight ends against Col Mudie and John Dunn but gradually got back into the match and eventually ran out winners, 20-18.
