Went, Henry & Frame District Champions

Congratulations to Parkes Bowling & Sports Club bowlers for taken out both the singles and pairs District Champion of Champions.
Michael Went won the singles title after defeating Parkes Railway Diggers’ Col Boehm 31-11 in the final.
Paul Henry and Brett Frame defeated the Condobolin duo of Laurie Thompson and Max Johnson 24-15 to take the pairs title. A full report will appear in the district bowls article.
HANDICAP PAIRS
This event is being played in sections with each team playing three games with the top four teams to compete in a finals playoff. The draw is on the board and bowlers are encouraged to organise to play their games over the next few weeks. If games have not been played earlier, rounds one and two will be played August 29-30 and round three on Saturday, September 5. All round matches must be completed by Sunday, September 6. Semi-finals and final are set down to be played on September 19-20.
One match was played on Saturday. Wilbur Harris and John Corcoran played Noel Nicholson and John Ward with Noel and John having a one shot handicap. With the score 8 all after 6 ends Wilbur and John won the next five ends to jump out to a 24-8 lead. Noel and John staged a mini comeback before Wilbur and John again strung together four winning ends to gain a big lead and went on to win the match 40-17.
SOCIAL BOWLS
24 bowlers enjoyed the great weather on Thursday and played six games of pairs.
Trailing 15-8 after 15 ends Bob Freeman and Ron Hornery stormed home to record a come from behind 19-17 win over George Bradley and Jim Jennings.
Mick Blunt and John Ward combined well in their 29-10 win over Bill Skinner and Col Hayward.
Bruce Deland and Wally Grant had a hard fought 20-17 win over Ray Jones and Gordon Dickson.
Dylan Johnson and Keith MacRae finished strongly to record a 23-20 win over Allan Wright and Dave Johnson.
Mike Valentine and Arthur Corbett won the last three ends to defeat Joe Crowley and Geoff Freeman 19-14.
John Keogh and Warren Bevan scored 11shots in winning the last four ends to defeat Rob Irving and Col Mudie 26-13.
Major prize winners were Mick Blunt and John Ward with the minor prize winners being Bob Freeman and Ron Hornery.
Saturday saw 14 social bowlers join the handicap pairs match players.
The triples game saw Bob Freeman, Rob Irving and Guy Ellery play Alan Affleck, Bernie Mitchell and Nimo Mills.
Bob, Rob and Guy trailed 5-12 before winning the next seven ends and grab the lead 17-12. Alan, Bernie and Nimo fought back and levelled the score 19 all after 19 ends. Bob, Rob and Guy scored two shots on the penultimate and held on to win narrowly 21-20.
With the score 15 all after 14 ends John Keogh and Dave Johnson won the last seven ends to defeat Joe Crowley and Steve Turner 29-15.
In a hard fought encounter Ted Wright and Ron Hornery scored one shot on the last end to tie the game 17 all against Ray Jones and Mike Valentine. Ted and Ron won the ends 12-9.
Major prize winners were Wilbur Harris and John Corcoran with the minor prize winners being Ted Wright and Ron Hornery.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
Six bowlers played one game of triples.
John Taylor, Ian Num and Gladrin Sun had a hard fought 10-6 win over Bob Freeman, Malcolm Watt and Keith Hutchison.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance of winning the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
MEALS
Members and their invited guests are advised that Mike’s Kitchen is open on Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner. It is also open for Sunday lunch with roast lunch being the speciality. Mike’s Kitchen is also available for group bookings at other times of the week.
Friday night raffles are also held with patrons having the chance to win meat trays, shopping vouchers and cash prizes. Members badge draw this Friday is $1700.
