Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
DISTRICT CHAMPION OF CLUB CHAMPIONS
Brett Frame has claimed the Singles title with a good 31-10 win over Condobolin’s Darren Seaton.
In the Pairs event Robert Corbett, subbing for John Davies, and Graham Barby had a hard fought win over Ron and John Davis from Peak Hill to secure a place in the final. The other semi-final was between teams from Forbes and Condobolin with the Forbes team of Bert Bailey and Graham Rutterford progressing to the final.
The final was very competitive with Robert and Graham getting an early lead, then Bert and Graham came back to establish a handy lead of 18-15 after 18 ends. The Parkes then started to chase shots however luck did not run their way. Bert and Graham played consistent bowls to claim the last three ends and record a 24-15 win.
THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
22 bowlers played one game of triples and four games of pairs.
In the triples game Bob Freeman, John Dunn and Gary McPhee played Alan Affleck, Mick Blunt and Greig Ball. In a low scoring game the score was 9 all after 14 ends. Bob, John and Gary got out to lead 16-12 after 18 ends and held on to win 18-13.
Ron Hornery and Mike Valentine played Brian Harrison and John Ward. Ron and Mike held a narrow 17-15 lead after 16 ends. They then won the next two ends to grab a nine shot lead and went on to win 25-19.
Bill Skinner and Arthur Corbett scored a hard fought 26-21 win over Wes Westcott and Geoff Freeman.
Kevin Robinson and Col Mudie played Allan Wright and Col Hayward. After 13 ends Allan and Col held an 11-10 lead. They then won the next three ends to extend their lead to 19-10 and went on to win 21-15.
John Hodge and John Corcoran led all the way in their 18-13 win over Terry Hetherington and Warren Bevan.
The major winners were John Hodge and John Corcoran and the minor winners were Bob Freeman, John Dunn and Gary McPhee.
SUPER SATURDAY
40 bowlers played ten games of social pairs in the John Carr and Handisteel sponsored Super Saturday.
Maree Grant and Gary McPhee led all the way in their 20-12 win over John Hodge and John Carr.
Wes Westcott and Col Hayward played Max Tomkins and John Ward. Wes and Col had a narrow 17-15 lead after 17 ends. They then won three of the last four ends to win 25-18.
Alan Affleck and Col Mudie played Bob Freeman and Greig Ball. Bob and Greig won four ends in a row to lead 19-13 after 17 ends. Alan and Col scored six shots on the next two ends to level the score 19 all. Bob and Greig scored two shots on the penultimate end and then Alan and Col scored two shots on the last end to draw the game 21-21.
Bob and Greig won the ends 11-10.
Terry Hetherington and Arthur Corbett only lost six ends in their all the way 32-19 win over Joe Crowley and Steve Turner.
John Keogh and Rhona Went won the last three ends to record a 19-17 win over Steve Mills and Keith MacRae.
In a high scoring match Noel Nicholson and Craig Henry defeated Valma Westcott and John O’Malley 30-23.
Bruce Deland and George Boatswain led all the way in their 21-14 win over Ron Murray and Kevin Hynds.
Cliff Westcott and Dave Johnson also led all the way in their 20-14 win over Tom Furey and Liz Byrne.
Bob Riseborough and Wally Grant scored six shots on the last end to win 26-16 over Bill Skinner and Ron Hornery.
Guy Bennett and Geoff Freeman only lost four ends in their big 37-11 win over John Dunn and Warren Bevan. It was very pleasing to see Guy back on the green, and playing good bowls, after a lengthy break.
The major winners were Bob Riseborough and Wally Grant and the minor winners were Cliff Westcott and Dave Johnson.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
12 bowlers played three games of pairs.
Bob Freeman and Dean Searl led 11-3 and held on to win 11-9 against Shannon Birmingham and Chris Dunn.
Alan Affleck and Ted Wright had a good 19-13 win over Mal Porter and Kevin Hynds.
Mick Blunt and Dave Johnson had a narrow 13-12 win over Brian Harrison and Steve Turner.
Prize winners were Shannon Birmingham, Brian Harrison, Kevin Hynds, Mal Porter and Alan Affleck.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. The range of numbers for the jackpot margin is being reduced by two each week until the jackpot is won. Next week the range will be 1-9.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
MAJOR FOURS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Four teams play the first round on Saturday 2nd @ 9:00am. This is followed by the quarter finals Saturday afternoon with the semi-final and final being played on Sunday 3rd. The four teams playing the first round are teams skipped by Brett Frame, John Corcoran, Keith MacRae and Geoff Freeman.
STATE CLUB CHALLENGE
Bowlers interested in representing the club in this event are asked to put their name on the sheet which is displayed on the notice board in hallway.
MENS BOWLS SECTION AGM
The AGM of the Parkes Bowling & Sports Club Mens Bowls Section is being held on Monday 4th Aug commencing at 7pm. All bowlers are urged to attend.
CENTRAL WEST DISTRICT BOWLS COMMITTEE
A number of the current board members are not standing at the next elections. Nominations are being requested for President, Secretary, Treasurer, Match Committee, Selectors, Greens Committee and Publicity Officer. Nominations need to be in by 4:00pm Saturday 2nd August.
