Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Last Thursday whilst there was a gentle very cool breeze on an overcast afternoon 12 bowlers played social bowls. Ray Jones & Geoff Freeman 21 defeated John Dunn & Colin Hayward 15, John Ward & Gary McPhee 29 defeated Graham Barby & Colin Woods 19, Bill Skinner & Keith MacRae 17 defeated Gordon Dickson & Greg Huggins 16. This very close game was won on the last end by Bill & Keith picking up two shots. One minor singles championship game was played between Bob Freeman & Jim Blake with Jim running out winner 31 to 19. Marker for this game was Bernie Mitchell who did a good job with the card.
Bowlers are reminded there are still games in the Minor Championships outstanding and they are listed to be played on or before 7th July.
Social bowls Saturday saw only 8 bowlers. In two games of pairs, Bob Freeman & Gordon Dickson 18 defeated Joe Crowley & Gladrin Sun 11, Martin Tighe & Rhona Went 20 drew with Ray Jones & Kim Evans 20.
During the weekend at the club one section of Zone 4 Open Singles were played, during which 32 bowlers took part from 11 different clubs in the western area of the zone. In the final Darren Seton from Condobolin 31 defeated Joel Diduszko from Molong 15. Darren Seton will now playoff with other section winners at Dubbo Railway Bowling Club to determine a Zone winner.
On Sunday two championship games were played. In the Major Singles Paul Went 31 defeated Brett Frame 19. Scores were level 7 all after 10 ends. Brett led to this point then Paul took control of the game and led for the rest of the match. In the Minor Singles Match between Guy Ellery and Greg Townsend the game was a cliff hanger with Guy leading all the way early. Scores were level on the 22nd,24th and the 29th ends. At this stage the score was 30 all when Guy scored one shot to win the game 31 to 30.
Next Sunday there will be social bowls. Names in by 12:30pm for a 1pm start. This is for everyone and will be played during the warm part of the day with a BBQ after the game for all bowlers. There will be plenty of prizes available. This is a practice day being organised by Geoff Freeman who promises to make the day very interesting.
