G'Day, and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
PENNANTS.
Well, the big weekend has come and gone, and unfortunately our teams did'nt come home with the bacon.
Both the Fives and Sevens went to Dubbo on Saturday, left Parkes in the rain, arrived at Dubbo in the rain, and after half an hour, the match committee met with the green keeper and decided to abandon the matches on Saturday, this meant a new draw under the sudden death format to be played on Sunday.
The Sevens were first up, playing Cobar. they led for most of the match, but unfortunately over the last 10 ends or so, the game slipped away, a dropped 6 was the catalist that put Cobar in front, and they held on to win by the barest of margins 57/55, to show what might have been, Cobar went on to win the Zone flag, and are off to Port Macquarie to play off for the State Flag.Anyway it was a mighty effort by our team, and they deserve our congratulations for a great effort, well done fellas, especially to Tom Cole, who, at 93 still played a mean game of lead bowls and was one of the more constant bowlers on the day, way to go Tom.
The Fives were in a way lucky, in the draw Parkes got the Bye and did'nt have to play till 1pm on Sunday, whilst Wellington met Baradine in the sudden death game.
This was a cracker, it went down to the wire, literally, Baradine led early, Wellington came back, Baradine hit the front with only a few ends to go, then with two ends to go Baradine led by 3. On the last end the Wellington Skip drew a shot with his last bowl, Baradine by 2, on the next rink with the jack in the ditch, Wellington led by 4, the Baradine Skip with his last bowl only had to cut them back, but unfortunately his bowl went to Bondi, and the Wello boys let Dubbo know who won.
So now Parkes were up against Wellington, and the Bye for Parkes was now a mute point, as Wellington ,with the match practice against Baradine was far superior on the Tifdwarf green and they took off to a huge lead,20/0. Parkes then hit their straps, and started to claw their way back, they were on a roll and with ten ends to go were only 7 shots behind, but Wellington got going again, and went on to win 69/47.
To show the determination of our side, one rink was down 17/0, but came back, to only go down 22/17.And the "Amazing" Arthur Corbett and side were the only Parkes rink to win.Congratulations to Wellington, I know they will do Zone 4 proud at Bomaderry. So roll on next year.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Monday, on the Public Holiday, saw 36 bowlers on the greens, with the winners being Ted Wright John Hodge and Rob Tinker, runners up being Geoff Freeman Guy Bennett and Dave Worthington.
Thursday Afternoon saw 32 bowlers take part. with the winners being Dave Buggie and Eddie McPhee, runners up being Ted Wright and Keith MacRae.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
Only 8 players, but with two Pennant teams away, together with their supporters, it was not surprising, anyway the Jackpot was not won, next Sunday it is a very respectful $780.
CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLES
Four games of triples were played over the week, Ted Wright, John Hodge and Rob Tinker had a close win over Jimmy Jennings, (where the hell have you been Jim) Max Tomkins and Corky Corcoran 23/20. Geoff Freeman, Guy Bennett and Dave Worthington beat Gary McPhee, Dean Searle (sub) and Kev Hynds 28/21. Paul Henry, Gary Went and Brett Frame had a good win over Noel Nicholson, John Ward and Ken Walsh 25/21 and finally Greig Ball, Col Hayward and Tom Casey had a good win over Bruce Deland, John Carr and Warren Bevan 26/18.
In an important announcement, the Match Committee has decided that the Minor Triples will be played as 2 Bowls over 25 ends, this will make the game the same as the Major Triples. So anyone who playes both Major and Minor Triples will now play the same game.
GENERAL NEWS
Both the Major and Minor Fours are still open, get your teams together and put them in the box, together with the money, also put your teams on the list on the notice board. This will let anyone know who is looking for players an idea of who is still available to play.
Well that's it for this week, good bowling to everyone, see you all at the Bowlie.
