Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Saturday, August 27, two Minor Singles matches were played.
In a very close match, Steve “Nimo” Mills and Matt Parker battled it out over a marathon thirty-seven ends. Matt won twenty-four ends but all of his wins were by 1 or 2 shots.
The first end went to Steve by 2 shots but Matt won the next 5 to lead 6-2 after 6 ends. Steve played well to stay in the match but Matt slowly drew away and won by five shots, 31 -26, after thirty seven ends.
In the other match Wilbur Harris won the first end but Wally Grant gradually built a good lead and eventually won the match 31 – 21 after twenty-six ends

Thursday, August 25.
Sixteen players turned out to play four games of Pairs.
In a match that saw the lead change eight times, Col Mudie and Bernie Mitchell started well to lead John Hodge and Ron Hornery 3-0 after the first two ends. After ten ends, John and Ron lead 10 – 8 and after fifteen ends the scores were level 15 all. With two ends to play, John and Ron seemed to have the upper hand, leading by 3 shots, 21 -18, but Col and Bernie scored 3 shots on the last two ends to draw the match 21 all. In a count-back John and Ron claimed the match having won the ends 11-10.
In another close match Keith MacRae played with John Harcus (a visitor) for a narrow win, 19-14, over Col Hayward and Gladrin Sun.
John Dunn and Joe Crowley proved too strong for Rob Irving and Graham Barby while Mike Valentine and John Watson had a win against Les Kent and Greg Huggins.
Prize winners were Keith MacRae and John Harcus.
Saturday, August 27.
In addition to the two Championship matches, fourteen bowlers played 2 games of Pairs and one of Triples.
In a Pairs match, Keith MacRae and Jim Blake had a 5-0 lead against Dave Johnson and Joe Crowley after the first two ends. After five ends Dave and Joe had taken the lead 6-5 and had the better of the scoreboard from there on to lead by three shots, 21-18, going in to the last end, which Keith and Jim won by three shots to level the scores 21 all. On a count-back Dave and Joe would have claimed the match having won the ends 12 – 9 but agreed to play an extra end and the match went to Keith and Jim, 24-21.
The other pairs match went to Graham Dixon and Ron Hornery over John Dunn and Ray Jones. In the Triples match Jack Holland (visiting from Adelaide), John Hodge and Rob Irving had a narrow 21-16 win against Arthur Corbett, Col Mudie and Bill Skinner.
The Winners prize went to Graham Dixon and Ron Hornery.
UPCOMING BOWLS EVENTS.
Social bowls will continue on Thursday and Saturday.
A quick reminder to all members that, as from September 3, all Saturday Social Bowls (as well as matches) will be played in Club Uniform and not Mufti as has been the case recently.
The Club Championships have reached the Finals stages.
In the Major Fours, the team of Brett Frame, Col Hayward, Paul Henry and Steve Turner will play the final against Michael Went, Tom Casey, Tom Furey and Matt Parker.
In the Minor Pairs, Guy Ellery and John Hodge are through to the final and will play the winner of the Semi-final when Rob Irving and Wally Grant play against Steve Turner and Wilbur Harris.
The Minor Singles event is still in the Quarter-final stages with Greg Townsend and Gary McPhee to meet in one semi-final and the other semi-finalists still to be decided.

Come along and buy the winning tickets in the “Early Birds” meat tray raffle at about 6.15pm followed by the major raffle with prizes of meat trays, vouchers and cash which will be drawn at about 8 o’clock.
The Badge Draw was not won last week and this Friday will be worth $1000, and will be drawn after the raffles.
The new Bistro, MJ’S, is open for business, serving great meals at very reasonable prices.
