Men's AGM August 7th

Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Last Thursday was a very nice sunny day and attracted 32 bowlers 26 social and six championship bowlers. In the social bowls Joe Davies Geoff Freeman 24 defeated Steve Turner Michael Went 20. Joe and Geoff led all the way. In a cliff hanger John Watson Colin Hayward drew with Ray Jones Colin Mudie 20 all. In this game Colin Mudie did the majority of the scoring in the first half. The scores were level on the second, 17 and 19 ends with Colin Hayward coming home with the wind in his sails to achieve the draw. Jim Blake Keith MacRae 18 defeated Joe Crowley Rob Irving 11. While the scores were level on the 4th end that was the last time during the match they were anywhere near the money as Jim & Keith led all the way to the finish. In other games Greg Huggins John Ward 21 defeated Bernie Mitchell Graham Barby 18. Ted Wright Steve Mills 24 defeated Gladrin Sun John Carr 12. In the Triples game Ian Simpson Gordon Dickson Chris Dunn 25 defeated Bob Freeman Wally Grant Trevor Harvey 13. The score in this game was 10 all after 12 ends, then Chris Dunn’s team put the foot down. In the major triples championship match Gary McPhee Dave Johnson Tom Furey 26 defeated Paul Henry Guy Ellery Brett Frame 21. After 8 ends the score was seven all but Tom’s team took control from that point to the finish. Winners on the day were Geoff Freeman Joe Davies while the runners up were Ray Jones and Colin Mudie.
Saturday was an overcast day with some drizzle throughout the afternoon that wasn’t sufficient to quench the thirst of a gecko, just annoying. In the social pairs Joe Davies Garry Carberry 19 defeated Tom Furey Brett Frame 12. This was a match that was fairly close throughout until the halfway mark when Joe & Garry took control to run out winners. Gordon Dickson Colin Mudie 28 defeated Brenda Davies Maureen Baillie 13, Rob Irving Bruce Orr 21 defeated Joe Crowley Keith MacRae 16. Rob & Bruce led all the way. Greg Huggins Ray Jones 37 defeated Jim Blake George Boatswain 10. John Taylor John Ward 20 defeated John Carr Arthur Corbett 18 in a close game. After 18 ends the score was 17 all.
Championship Matches
Major Triples Gary Went Paul Went Michael Went 31 defeated Geoff Freeman Greg Howlett Mark Dwyer 22. This game was played over 25 ends where the losers won 13 ends to 12. The winners picking up multiple scores on the 4th 5th and 25th ends to seal the game. The minor singles between Gary McPhee 31 Steve Turner 30 was a cliff hanger and a very even match throughout. Very little between players with the score equal on the 12th 14th 16th 19th 22nd ends. Congratulations fellows on a very entertaining exhibition.
No prizes information was available for Saturday.
Pennant practice took place at the Parkes Railway Diggers last Sunday in preparation for the state playoffs coming up. The results were evenly divided at 56 shots, one rink all and a draw. There will be a return match at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club commencing at 1pm on Sunday the 12th August.
The Men’s Bowling Section Annual General Meeting will be held Tuesday 7th August 7pm. Nominations close 31st July for all positions on the notice board.
Members jackpot next Friday night is $1000 during the entertainment throughout the night.
