Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Club Minor Singles Championships.
On Saturday, September 22, Wilbur Harris and Guy Ellery fought out the Final of the Minor Singles Championship. Wilbur started well and after eight ends lead 10-2. Guy found form and after thirteen ends had taken a narrow 12-11 lead. Over the next eight ends the scores were fairly even but Guy had extended his lead to three shots, 21-18. Guy gradually took control of the match and claimed the win, 31-24 after thirty ends. Congratulations to both players on a great match and to Guy in particular, our Minor Singles Champion for 2018.
Thursday, September 13.
Four Pairs matches and one Triples match were played with a couple of fairly close results.
Keith MacRae and George Bradley started well and built up a 10-1 lead after six ends but Steve Ryan and John Watson scored seven shots on the next tree ends to trail by two shots, 8-10. Over the next six ends Keith and George had extended their lead to 19-9 but with one ends to play Steve and John had reduced the lead to two shots and on the last end they were holding three shots but with his second last bowl Keith moved the jack to score one shot and win the match 20-17.
In their match against Geoff and Bob Freeman, John Ward and Graham Dixon lead for most of the match and with two ends to play the score was 20-13. Geoff and Bob won the last two ends but John and Graham hung on to win 20-16.
In other matches:
Col Hayward and Greg Huggins were too good for Gary McPhee and Jim Blake.
Brett Frame and Rob Irving had a good win against Col Mudie and Ron Hornery.
In the triples match, Steve Mills, John Carr and Graham Barby were too strong for John Dunn, Rob Tinker and Ray Jones.
The Winning Rink jackpot wasn’t won and will carry over to the next game day.
Saturday, September 22.
It was good to see Wes and Val Westcott back on the green after a lengthy absence. It was also good to welcome Allan Josh and Kay Arnott visiting from the Central Coast area – we hope you enjoyed your day and your visit to our region.
After the regulation twenty-one ends of a hard fought match the team of Col Hayward, John Carr and Rob Irving had a draw, 15 all, with Tom Furey, Col Mudie and Jim Blake. Tom’s team should have called it a day and claimed “bragging rights” having won the ends 11-10 but, sportingly, agreed to an extra end to decide the result. Team Hayward scored three shots on the extra end to win the match 18-15.
Other results were:
Steve Mills, Maureen Baillie and Wes Westcott 24 – George Boatswain, Val Westcott and Mal Porter 16.
Dave Johnson and Ray Jones 29 - Greg Townsend and Gladrin Sun 15.
Allan Josh and Kay Arnott had a comfortable win against Arthur Corbett and Rhona Went.
The Winning Rink Jackpot wasn’t won and carries over to the next game day.
