Here's the latest from the Bowlie.
SOCIAL BOWLS
On Thursday 24 bowlers enjoyed the great spring weather and the magnificent condition of our tiff dwarf green which is regarded as the top green in the zone.
Rob Irving, following on from his handicap pairs win with Ray Jones, continued his great form when he put in another man of the match performance combining with the every consistent Col Hayward to record a huge 34-7 win over Greg Howlett and Geoff Freeman.
After trailing 5-16 Bruce Deland and Col Mudie stormed home winning nine of the last 12 ends to record a 30-20 win over Gordon Dickson and Eddie McPhee.
John Taylor and Warren Bevan scored 13 shots on the last five ends to record a come from behind 22-18 win over George Bradley and John Corcoran.
Mick Blunt and Graham Dixon combined well in their 29-17 win over Bob Freeman and Mike Valentine.
Bill Skinner and Steve Ryan scored 11 shots in winning the last five ends to come from behind to defeat John Dunn and John Ward 22-14.
In a very close low scoring game Allan Wright and Col Woods scored four shots on the last end to grab a 16-14 win over John Watson and Ron Hornery.
Major prize winners were Bill Skinner and Steve Ryan with the minor prize winners being Rob Irving and Col Hayward.
Saturday saw 14 social bowlers grace the green and they played two games of pairs and one triples.
After leading 15-5 Ted Wright, Bill Skinner and Steve Turner held on to defeat Bob Freeman, Brian Sefonte and Eddie McPhee 26-19.
After scoring seven shots on the tenth end Gordon Dickson and Geoff Freeman held a 13-8 lead over Nimo Mills and John Ward. Nimo and John had the better of the next eight ends to trail by just one shot. Gordon and Geoff then took control of the game winning the last three ends to score a 23-16 win.
Rob Irving and Ron Hornery played Ray Jones and Craig Henry. Rob and Ron lead 21-8 after 13 ends and looked set for a huge win. Ray and Craig finished strongly winning six of the last eight ends to narrow the margin to 23-19.
Major prize winners were Rob Irving and Ron Hornery. Rob is certainly running hot at the moment with his handicap pairs win last week and now game wins and prize money on both days this week. Well done Rob.
Players are reminded that with the commencement of daylight saving the times for social bowls are changed to names in by 1pm for a 1:30pm start.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
8 bowlers played two games of pairs.
June Burgess and Keith Hutchison won five of the last six ends to record a 15-8 win over Anne Everett and George Boatswain.
After leading 13-8 John Watson and Maureen Baillie held on to defeat the fast finishing team of Don Littlewood and John Dunn 13-12.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000. Come along for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30 for a 10:00am start.

MENS BOWLING COMMITTEE
Nominations have been called for bowlers interested in being part of the men’s bowling committee. Positions to be filled are President, Vice President, Secretary and Committee (5). Nominations close on Tuesday, October 20. The next meeting of the men’s bowls is being held on Sunday, October 25 commencing at 5pm following a social bowls afternoon. Expressions of interest are also being sought for helpers with the schools program and also for the publicity officer’s position.
SCHOOL BOYS BOWLS TUTORING
The club is tutoring a number of high school boys in bowls. They are looking for the loan of newer type bowls in sizes ranging from size two to size four. Anyone lending their bowls can be assured their bowls will not leave the precinct of the club. Bowlers are also invited to help out with the tutoring.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
The ever popular twilight bowls commences at 6:30pm tomorrow Thursday, October 8 with a free night of bowls.
Anyone wishing to play should just turn up on the night or they can contact the club on 68621446. They can either nominate as a team or as a single participant where they will be put into a team.
FRIDAY NIGHT
Mel from cafe'n'ate is cooking up a storm on Friday nights with great reviews from patrons. She cooks good old fashioned pub style meals at very reasonable prices. Raffles are also on where patrons have the chance to win meat trays, shopping vouchers and cash prizes. So come along and join in the fun. Members badge draw this Friday is $2300.
