32 Bowlers For St. Andrews Day

ST ANDREWS DAY
32 bowlers participated in a Scottish Sunday on November 30 to celebrate St Andrews Day. This day was organised and sponsored by our Scottish bowls president Alan Affleck. The day featured three games of eight end three bowl pairs which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Overall winners were Mick Blunt and Graham Barby.
Bowls prize winners were:
! – Mick Blunt and Graham Barby (31 points)
2 – Kate Keogh and Col Hayward (30 points)
3 – Chris Dunn and Tom Furey (29 points)
4 – Bill Skinner and Pat Cooney (26 points)
5 – Lee and Bruce Orr (24 points)
Encouragement Award – Cherie Frame and Peter McPhee
Resting Toucher – Geoff Freeman
Raffle prize winners were Greg Townsend, Pat Cooney and Chris Dunn, Tony Byrne (2) and Kevin Hynds.
Following the bowls a Scottish concert featuring students from Parkes East Public School who performed a dance routine ‘Strip the Willow’, pipers from Parkes, Dubbo and Condobolin, Barbara Newton who sung two Scottish songs and Rev Andrew and Mrs Shona Taggart who recited poetry and led the Scottish sing along.
A big thank you goes to all the performers for making it a very enjoyable day.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
54 bowlers played last Thursday night.
After trailing 8-0, We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M won seven of the last nine ends to defeat The Battlers 14-11.
High Rollers won the last five ends to record a come from behind 11-6 win over Rok-FM.
Rolling Stones scored seven shots on the last three ends to defeat Uniting Church 14-8.
Casey Surveying 2 had a good 15-9 win over Three Amigos.
The other winning teams were Casey Surveying 1, Super Bees, Two & A Half Fitters, Back Trundle Rd 2 and Central West Glass.
Major winners were Two & A Half Fitters with the minor winners being We Wreck ‘M N We Fix ‘M. The lucky losers prize was won by Back Trundle Road 1.
THURSDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
24 bowlers contest six games of pairs.
Noel Nicholson and Steve Ryan had a comfortable 24-10 win over Les Kent and Ray Jones.
Ted Wright and Greig Ball played Alan Affleck and Mike Valentine. The score was tied 9all after 11 ends. Ted and Greig won five of the next seven ends to lead 20-11. Alan and Mike scored six shots on the next end to trail by three shots. Ted and Greig held firm, taking the last two ends and winning the game 25-17.
Bob Freeman and Col Hayward finished the stronger in their 25-20 win over Rob Irving and Graham Barby.
Daniel Casslin (Sydney) and John Ward led early and then survived a fight back from John Dunn and Kevin Hynds to win a close game 23-20.
Bill Skinner and Geoff Freeman played John Watson and Flip Fliedner. Bill and Geoff had a great start and led 22-4 after 12 ends. The last nine ends were dominated by John and Flip but luckily for Bill and Geoff they were all single shot ends which saw them take the game 25-10.
John Keogh and Col Mudie played Paul Cook (Mackay) and John Corcoran. John and Col got out to a 10-3 lead before Paul and John fought back to level the score 11all. John and Col then led 18-14 after 19 ends before Paul and John scored four shots on the penultimate end to level at 18 all. The last end was a thriller with the game being decided on the last bowl with Paul and John scoring one shot to win a very close game 19-18.
The major winners were Noel Nicholson and Steve Ryan and the minor winners were Paul Cook and John Corcoran.
SATURDAY SOCIAL BOWLS
20 bowlers played five games of pairs.
Ray Jones and John Ward held a good 18-3 lead after 10 ends and went on to defeat Joe Crowley and Ron Hornery 25-15.
Tom Furey and Warren Bevan were too strong for Alan Affleck and Gary McPhee, winning 29-15.
Steve Turner and Arthur Corbett played Ron Fisher and Kevin Hynds. Steve and Arthur led 16-3 before Ron and Kevin fought back to narrow the score to 16-14. Steve and Arthur had the better of the concluding ends to run out winners 26-17.
Mike Valentine and Liz Byrne led all the way in their 21-13 win over Rob Irving and Greig Ball.
Bill Skinner and Col Mudie played Allan Wright and Geoff Freeman. Allan and Geoff led 10-6 after 10 ends before Bill and Col won four of the next six ends to lead 19-15. Allan and Geoff tried hard but Bill and Col dug deep and held on to win 21-18.
The major winners were Steve Turner and Arthur Corbett and the minor winners were Mike Valentine and Liz Byrne.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
8 bowlers played two games of pairs.
Martin Tighe and Greg Townsend scored one shot on the last end to win 15-14 in a very exciting game against Mal Porter and Maureen Bailey.
Keith Hutchison and George Boatswain won the last two ends to defeat Mick Blunt and Tom Furey 17-12.
Prize winners were George Boatswain, Maureen Bailey and Greg Townsend.
The jackpot was not won and will be $920 next week. Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE
Tickets are now being sold in the club’s annual Christmas hamper which is valued in excess of $600. Tickets are two dollars each and are available from the club. Grab your tickets and be in the running for this great prize which will be drawn on Friday, December 19.
The next three Friday night prize draws are featuring the ever popular Christmas hams.
