Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
Pennants.
The final day of the District Pennants season was a mixed day for our Pennant sides with all three sides playing at home.
The Grade two side gained entry to the State Finals (on a date and at a venue to be decided) with a great, but close, win over Mudgee with an aggregate score of 61-60. Garry Carberrys team won 25-15, Michael Wents team won 24-18 and Paul Wents team went down 12-27 giving the side a 9 points to 1 win overall.
The Grade 5 side also had a 9 points to 1 win against Narromine. John Wards team had a great win 26-8 and Dave Johnsons team won 29-21. Warren Bevans team was just beaten 22-16 giving us an aggregate win of 71-51.
Unfortunately the Grade 7 side was beaten by Condobolin by the big margin of 48-73. John Carrs team played very well to win 20-16 but Keith MacRaes team lost 12-24 and Steve Mills team also went down 16-33, giving Condobolin the win 9 points to 1. The result means that Condobolin will advance to the Zone Finals to be played in Lithgow early in May.
Many thanks to the volunteers who put in so much time preparing the greens, Rhona Went and her helpers for preparing the after match snacks and the bar staff for the great job they do. Also a special thank you to the three team managers, Gwenda Carty, Pat Cooney and Liz Byrne for all their hard work looking after the paperwork and keeping the main score boards ticking over.
It has been a good season and we wish the 2s all the luck in the world at the State Finals.
Club Championships.
On Saturday, three Major Singles matches were played as well as a Major Pairs match.
In Major Singles matches Greg Townsend proved too strong for Martin Tighe, 31-21 and Paul Went had a win over Wilbur Harris, 31-23. The match between Arthur Corbett and Col Hayward went down to the wire. Arthur started well and led 8-0 after three ends and gradually built up the lead and after twenty-five ends had a good lead of 25-15. Col then found form, winning six of the next seven ends to take the lead 28-26 but could not sustain the run and Arthur scored five shots on the next three ends to claim victory 31-28.
In the Major Pairs match Garry Carberry and Tom Casey had a very convincing win, 34-11 against Steve Mills and George Bradley and are the first team into the Semi-finals.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, April 12.
On a great day for Bowls, four Pairs games and one Triples game were played with a couple of close games and some not so close.
In their match against John Ward and Col Woods, Graham Dixon and Greg Huggins won the first two ends to lead 3-0. The third end went to John and Col and the score was tied 3 all. From there on, John and Col built on their lead and with three ends to play led 19-12. The last three ends were won by Graham and Greg but they could only manage five shots and John and Col won the match 19-17.
Ted Wright and Graham Barby lead almost from the start of their match against Col Mudie and Bill Skinner but there was never a great deal in it. Ted and Graham just got home 21-17.
In other matches;
Gary McPhee and John Dunn had a comfortable win against Ron Hornery and Gordon Dickson.
Guy Ellery and John Watson were far too good for Wally Austin and George Bradley.
In the Triples match Arthur Corbett, Jim Blake and Joe Crowley had a win against Geoff Freeman, Bob Freeman and Rob Irving.
Winners on the day were Guy Ellery and John Watson and the Runners-up prize went to the winning Triples team.
