Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
17 bowlers turned out on a beautiful Spring morning.
Barrie Freeman pressed the button for that elusive jackpot number. Unfortunately her number did not come out and the jackpot remains at $1000.
Here are the results of the games played.
Maureen and George Boatswain combined well to defeat Dave Buggie and Kevin Hynds 18/13.
Elaine Miller and Steve Turner had a closely contested game against Rob Irving and John Dunn. Elaine and Steve scored five shots on the second last end to take the lead and then Rob and John scored five shots on the last end to snatch a win 19/18.
Barrie Freeman and Mick Blunt finished strongly, winning the last four ends to defeat Bob Freeman and Guy Ellery 12/7.
Keith Hutchison played lead for both sides in a closely contested game of triples. He teamed with Tom Cole and Mike Valentine to defeat himself, Ian Brown and Mal Porter 13/9.
Prize winners were Guy Ellery, Dave Buggie, Ian Brown, Tom Cole and Steve Turner.
Come along next Sunday for a game, a sausage sizzle, and to be in the running for the $1000 jackpot.
SOCIAL
26 bowlers turned out on Thursday playing five games of Pairs and one game of Triples.
Leading 15/10 after fourteen ends Allan Wright and John Ward hung in to win a very close contest against Bernie Mitchell and Greig Ball 17/15.
After being behind 8/3 early in the match, John Keogh and Brett Frame won eleven of the next thirteen ends to establish a handy lead and eventually win their match against John Dunn and Col Hayward 24/13.
Rob Irving and Tom Casey played excellent bowls in completely dominating their match against Col Woods and Geoff Freeman, running out easy winners 29/13.
Norm Keane and Mike Parkes played Boyde Long, a visitor from Eden, and Dave Buggie. The teams were locked together 16 all after fourteen ends. Norm and Mike then won five of the last seven ends to win the match 28/18.
In what turned out to be a very one sided encounter, Bruce Deland and John Hodge won seventeen of the twenty-one ends in defeating Gordon Dickson and Gary McPhee 27/5. My spies tell me Bruce had a blinder.
Joe Crowley, Bob Freeman and Warren Bevan played Gwenda Carty, Bill Skinner and Col Mudie. Joe, Bob and Warren lead 23/3 after ten ends and survived a mini comeback from Gwenda, Bill and Col to run out winners 28/15.
Thursday prize winners were Joe Crowley, Bob Freeman and Warren Bevan and the runners-up were Allan Wright and John Ward.
Saturday saw 18 bowlers play three games of Pairs and one game of Triples.
The number of bowlers was less than normal caused by twelve bowlers playing in the Ben Hall Pairs tournament at Forbes.
As all bowlers have experienced, occasionally you come up against a red hot team and finish up on the wrong end of a high scoring match. Apparently this happened to two of our boys while competing in the Ben Hall Pairs. My spy on the ground in Forbes reported that our two boys had their opposition post a 55/6 score. A whopping 49 shot margin. Knowing the two fellows, I’m sure they still enjoyed having a yarn and a drink with their opponents during and after the match.
Results of the local matches were:
Norm Keane and Mike Valentine were always in control of their match against Wally Grant and Joe Crowley, running out winners 24/12.
After being behind 11/7 after nine ends, Ron Murray and Bruce Orr won the next ten ends in recording a 30/14 win over Allan Wright and Ted Wright.
Steve Turner and Tom Casey lead 20/3 against John Keogh and John Carr. The two John’s won the last nine ends, but were unable to overcome the large deficit, going down 20/16.
In the triples match John Dunn, Noel Nicholson and Geoff Freeman played Col Woods, John Ward and Kevin Hynds.
John, Noel and Geoff, after leading 28/11, went on to win the match 32/20.
Saturday prize winners were John Dunn, Noel Nicholson and Geoff Freeman and the runners-up were Steve Turner and Tom Casey.
