Here is the latest news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Three Major Singles matches were played on Saturday.
Michael Went played Warren Bevan. This was a very close match. Warren had a good start to the match and led 16-9 before Michael hit back to lead 22-18. Warren rallied and reclaimed the lead 23-22. Michael then won three of the next four ends to lead 30-24 and held on to eventually win the match 31-28.
Col Hayward scored a good 31-19 win over Arthur Corbett and Terry Hetherington only lost seven ends in recording a big 31-9 win over John Corcoran.
In Minor Singles, Wilbur Harris played Norm Keane. Norm had an early lead of 12-9. Wilbur then won the next nine ends to lead 24-12 and went on to win the match 31-18.
TWILIGHT BOWLS
58 bowlers enjoyed the presentation night last Thursday.
A free night of bowls was played prior to the presentations.
Best Performed Team awards went to Rok-FM and Crackerjacks and the Encouragement Award went to Battlers.
This very popular competition will commence again in October and all current participants and any new bowlers are invited to come along for some great nights of bowling.
PENNANTS
Round 3 of the Pennants was played on Sunday with the club winning Grade 5 and Grade 7 and losing Grade 1.
Grade 1 played Narromine at Parkes and were beaten 63-59 overall shots and a 5-1 loss. Results of the individual matches were:
Geoff Freeman, Warwick Parker, Michael Went and Graham Fliedner lost 23-18.
Dave Johnson, Graham Barby, Tony Bright and Robert Corbett lost 22-17.
Paul Henry, Tom Casey, John Davies and Col Hayward won 24-18.
Grade 5 played Dubbo City at Parkes and won all rinks for an overall 68-54 shots margin and a 6-0 win. Results of individual matches were:
Mick Craft, John Carr, Peter McPhee and Keith MacRae won 22-16.
Greig Ball, Mark Dwyer, Col Mudie and Arthur Corbett came from behind to win 20-18.
Matt Parker, Mike Valentine, John O’Malley and Warren Bevan won 26-20.
Grade 6 had the bye.
Grade 7 played Railway Diggers at Railway Diggers and won with an overall 65-48 shot margin for a 5-1 win. Results of individual matches were:
Ron Murray, Rob Irving, Bruce Orr and Terry Hetherington won 23-16.
Bernie Mitchell, Tom Furey, Wally Grant and Greg Townsend drew 25-25.
Don Littlewood, Bill Skinner, Steve Mills and Ted Wright drew 17-17.
Next Sunday Grade 1 plays Dubbo Railway at Dubbo Railway, Grade 5 plays Cobar at Cobar, Grade 6 plays Peak Hill at Parkes and Grade 7 plays Condobolin at Condobolin.
PUBLIC INVITATION BOWLS DAY
The club is holding a special bowls day on Saturday 12th April. All community members are invited to come along and enjoy a social game of bowls. Whether you are a current bowler or have never played, we invite everyone to come along to this special day. Plenty of prizes will be on offer for both bowlers and non bowlers.
SOCIAL
Tuesday, 11th March, saw 10 bowlers play in the Twilight Jackpot Bowls. One game of Pairs and one game of Triples were played. Joan Simpson and Ron Murray defeated Shannon Birmingham and Tom Furey 18-9 and in the Triples game Bob Freeman, Glen Pepper and Mark Dwyer were too strong for Les Kent, Mick Blunt and Gary McPhee, winning 18-10. The jackpot was not won and increased to $280. New bowlers are welcome with players needing to have their names in by 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start.
On Thursday 28 bowlers played seven games of Pairs. Five of these games had a margin of five shots or less while the other two games saw very convincing wins.
Norm Keane, playing very good lead bowls, combined with Col Hayward in recording a big 33-8 win over Tom Cole and Mike Valentine.
Nev Whitfield and John Ward were too strong for Mick Blunt and Mark Dwyer, winning 26-14.
Rob Irving and John Corcoran had a 22-19 win over John Dunn and Greig Ball.
Col Woods and Warren Bevan finished strongly to defeat Noel Nicholson and Kevin Hynds 27-22.
Ray Jones and Wally Austin survived a late fight back from Bill Skinner and Geoff Freeman, holding on to win 20-19.
Bob Freeman and Gary McPhee had a 20-16 win over Ian Mill and John Hodge. It was good to see Ian back playing on Thursdays.
Brian Sefonte and Peter McPhee scored six shots on the 19th end to grab the lead and then hang on to defeat Steve Turner and Eddie McPhee (grey nomad) 20-17. Good to see Eddie pay a visit.
Major winners were Brian Sefonte and Peter McPhee and the minor winners were Rob Irving and John Corcoran.
Saturday saw 16 bowlers play four games of Pairs.
Rob Irving and Kevin Hynds only lost four ends in defeating Ron Murray and Gary McPhee27-8.
Wes Westcott and Tom Furey won the last six ends in recording a 21-10 win over Col Woods and Joe Crowley.
Graham Barby and Col Mudie had a convincing 28-8 victory over Matt Parker and John Ward.
Mick Craft and Geoff Freeman had a narrow 17-15 win over Mike Valentine and Ray Jones.
Major winners were Graham Barby and Col Mudie and the minor winners were Michael Went and John Hodge (marker).
SUNDAY MORNING JACKPOT
12 bowlers graced the greens and played three games of Pairs.
Ian Brown and Maureen Bailey defeated Bob Freeman and George Boatswain 14-7.
Mick Blunt and Keith Hutchison defeated Bill Wyatt and Chris Dunn 15-9.
Shannon Birmingham and Mal Porter had a narrow 13-12 win over Tom Furey and Kevin Hynds.
Voucher winners were Shannon Birmingham, George Boatswain, Maureen Bailey, Keith Hutchison and Ian Brown.
The jackpot was not won and remains at $1000.
Come along on Sunday morning for a game of bowls, a sausage sandwich, and a chance to win the jackpot. Names in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start.
