President's pairs Zone Victory

Zone Championships
Last Saturday several club members travelled to West Dubbo to take part in Zone 4 playoffs. The highlight of the day being the win of Tom Casey and Greig Ball (pictured left) in the Presidentís Pairs. They got their campaign off to a good start with a strong 26-11 win over a pair from Binnaway. The afternoons final saw them take on a pair from the strong Dubbo Railway Club. Despite a slow start, dropping a seven on the second end, Casey and Ball showed great determination to finish full of running for 27 Ė 21 win. The pair will now go on to the state play offs later in the year at Port Macquarie.

Up and coming youngster Ben Townsend contested the Presidents singles, he put up a good performance before going down to the very experienced Greg Collin from Dubbo Railway 31-22. The fours team of Arthur and Robert Corbett, Noel Nicholson and John Ward contested the fours but unfortunately run into a very strong Dubbo Railway Team going down 24 13.

On the local scene on Saturday several championship matches were played. Andrew Trotman had a busy day scoring a good win over Jono Austin in the minor singles 31-13 in the morning. In the afternoon Trotman partnered Michael Went to take on Brett Frame and Paul Henry in a major pairs match. This match proved a real thriller with Henry and Frame with standing a late surge from Trotman and went to sin 21-20.
A major triples match saw Dave Johnstone, Terry Hetherington and Keith Macrae overcome a big early deficit to score a good 28-21 win over Jim Jennings, Max Tomkins and John Corcoran.

A big field of social Bowlers took advantage of the ideal winter weather last Saturday.
Ron Morray and Bob Riseborough 25-20 over Colin Woods and Ray Jones. A close encounter saw Tom Cole and Chris Dunn down Ryan McLuckie and Liz Byrne 19-17. Wes Westcott and Mick Craft big winners 28-9 over June Burgess and Mike Valentine. Gordon Dickson and Tom Hamilton also big winners 34-12 over Marv Hennock and Wally Austin. Trevor Downey and Colin Mudie 27-16 winners over Ellie Hetherington and Kevin Hynds. John Keogh and Gwenda Carty 24-11 over Alan Affleck and Garry Went. John Edwards and Ron Fisher 18-15 over Tony Byrne and Steve Turner. Graham Barby and Ken Walsh 25-17 over Don Littlewood and Geoff Freeman.
Looking after next Saturdayís bowls will be John Ward and Colin Mudie.

Next Sunday will be John Wardís third Presidentís Day. Players can make team entries or single names in the blue book at the bar.

Thursday bowls
Last Thursday 18 hardy souls braved the elements for social mufti bowls. John Keogh and Tom Casey had a narrow 21-18 win over Greig Ball and George Boatswain(visitor). Gary Whitney and Clive Robinson (Visitors) were too good for Jono Austin and Arthur Corbett 21-16. John Hodge and John Ward ran out comfortable 24-12 winners over Alan Affleck and Graham Barby. Kevin Hynds, Wally Austin and Colin Mudie big winners 30-12 over Keithy Macrae, Mike Valentine and Graham Turner.

Club News
The Friday night members draw will be well worth wining at $2,200 this Friday night.
Members are reminded that membership fees are due tomorrow, Thursday and should be paid ASAP as they need to be registered with the Royal by the middle of July.

Sunday Bowls
Sunday afternoon saw a semi-final of the Major Pairs. Noel Nicholson and Robert Corbett doing battle with Paul Henry and Brett Frame. Henry and Frame turned on a master class of bowls to completely dominate their opponents. Nicholson and Corbett scored a two on the eleventh end to trail 11-8, from this point on Henry and Frame took control to score a resounding 32-8 win.

Sixteen bowlers took part in Sunday morning Jackpot Pairs.
Keven Maguire and Kevin Hynds had Narrow 14-13 win over don Littlewood and Craig Cusack. Callen Job and Tom Cole 14-11 over Elaine Miller and Steve Turner.
Gerard Carney 17-13 over Zac and Bill Archer. Lenny Swamy and George Boatswain 18-11 over Steve skinner and Mick Holland.
The Jackpot did not go off and will be $360 next week.
