G Day and welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
This week saw the completion of the business house bowls for this year,
Wednesday saw the Super Bees edge out The Headless Chooks for the grand prize,
and on Thursday Night Revamped just scraped home against Thrown Together.
The Thursday night comp was so close five teams finished within four points of each other.
The new competition will commence approx 18/19 January, 2012 but watch this space for any news,as a lot will depend on how our newly renovated greens will recover.
If there is anyone who would like to join the night bowls comp, you will be most welcome, all you need is three players (some reserves will be very handy) pick the night you would like to play, and contact the club with your details, the comp will run for approx. 8 weeks.Bowls can be borrowed from the club,
Thursday afternoon saw 28 bowlers take to the greens,to play for hams and cakes,
a couple of scores from the day, Mick Valentine and Graham Barby had a hard fought match against Noel Nicholson and John Ward, being a 17 all draw, with Mick and Graham winning on ends, and Merv Hennock and Col Hayward beating Tom Cole and John Corcoran 24/20.
Saturday saw the second great grudge match, that being the 60 and under verse 61 and over. 48 players took to the field, and with some oldies heading across to the unders to make up the numbers, some great games were played.
With 48 bowlers on one green, (we now know how sardines feel), we played four games of fours and three of triples, the oldies showed their skill to have a good win.
We again played for hams and cakes, with 12 prizes being up for grabs.
This being Christmas week, there will be Mufti bowls on both Thursday and Saturday (Christmas Eve).
There will be a working Bee on This Friday Morning, starting at 7.30am, we are top dressing and Lazar leveling the No. 1 Green, anyone who can spare an hour, will be most welcome. There will be no column next week as I will be away, so I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year, and may all your wishes come true.
Good bowling to you all.
