Welcome to this weeks news from the Bowlie.
With the Leftie away for the weekend I am taking over the notes.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday saw 24 bowlers take to the greens on a beautiful Spring Day, the winners on the day were Ron Hornery and John Watson, runners up Kevin Hynds and Rob Irving, some of the closer games on the day saw John Watson and Ron Hornery just get over Bob Freeman and Mike Valentine 19/18, Brian Harrison and John Dunn also had a close encounter with Alan Affleck and Wally Austin, winning 18/17 and in the game of the day Mick Blunt and Greig Ball had a great battle with Tony Byrne and John Ward. Tony and John hit the lead for the first time in the game on the 20th end, only for Mick and Greig to equal on on the 21st, the final score being 18/18, Tony and John won the ends 11/10.
Saturday saw 32 bowlers take to the greens, with the winners being Greg Townsend and Greig Ball, the runners up Maureen Bailie and Mike Valentine, there were 6 ladies playing on the day, great to see.
Results from a couple of games on the day saw Bob Freeman and Eddie McPhee (the grey nomad) in a close win over Cliff Westcott and John Corcoran 19/18, Steve (nimo) Mills and Arthur Corbett in a great tussel .winning over Ron Hornery and John Ward 19/17, and in the game of the day Rob Irving and Gary McPhee against Allan Wright and Keith MacRae fighting out a 19/19 draw, in an amazing comeback Allan and Keith were down 17/8 on the 14th end , but won five out of seven ends to tie the game, only to go down 11/10 on ends won, a great game fellas.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
8 players fronted for a chance at the jackpot, currently $600, but it did not go off, so $640 this Sunday, one interesting result from a game was the score, 15 to 71/2, in a game between Stuart Kelly and Mick Blunt playing Bob Freeman and Alan Affleck, I have never heard of a half point being scored in a game of bowls, I await the explanation with interest.
