G'Day and welcome to this week's news from the Bowlie.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The final of the Minor Fours was played on Saturday, which saw Dave Johnson, Craig Henry, Paul Henry and Craig Cusack take on Laurie Westcott, Wes Westcott, Greg Ballentyne and Greg Pepper for the title. At the end of a thrilling game, team Cusack was victorious, winning 24/17. The scores were all level at the 12th end but the Cusack team had a stronger finish. Well done fellas.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
30 players fronted the starter on Saturday with the winners being the Fours team of Dave Johnson, Craig Henry, Paul Henry and Craig Cusack. The runners up being Alan Affleck and John Ward.
Thursday saw 24 players on the greens, with the winners being Wally Grant and John Corcoran. Runners up Noel Nicholson and Arthur Corbett.
SUNDAY JACKPOT BOWLS.
10 players were on hand to contest the jackpot but it was not won. So in a fortnight it will be $440. Please note, there will be NO Jackpot Bowls on this Sunday due to the Classic Triples being played over the weekend.
CLUB CHALLENGE.
Both our teams were in action on the weekend, the Silver team hosted Dubbo City and the Blues in their first game of the Competition were away to Millthorpe. The Silver had a close win over the Dubbo Side winning 2/1. They tell me the highlight of the day was the pairs team of Tom Casey and Mick Went. In a game of 15 ends, they were down 13/3 on the 9th end but then in a surge of brilliance, stormed home to win 16/15. (I was told I had to tell this story), anyway congratulations the Silver Team.
The Blues were beaten by Millthorpe, 2/1. I don't have individual scores on this game but I'm sure the fellas will put this behind them and look forward.
Both teams are at home this Sunday. The Silver will take on West Dubbo, while the Blues take on the strong Wellington Side. This will be a big weekend for the sides as a lot of the players will be in the Classic Triples, which will finish at about the time the games are due to start. No rest for the wicked.
TWILIGHT BOWLS.
This event is starting TONIGHT. It is for teams of three, men, ladies or mixed, High School Kids are also welcome to be part of a team. Be at the Club by 6pm tonight to enter. You can either play Wednesday or Thursday nights, $10 for adults, $5 for kids, for 2 hours of bowls then a sausage sizzle. It is a great fun night. The games will be graded, so teams of equal talent will play together in an A and B grade event. Bowls are available at the club and for new comers there will be players available to help them with their game. So come along for a great nights Gig.
GENERAL NEWS.
All players are reminded that it is Mufti every Thursday and Saturday afternoon social bowls up till Christmas. For those who are unfamiliar, this means that clean and tidy street clothes can be worn, together with flat soled shoes. So for any person who would like to try bowls for the first time, now is the time to give it a go. Bowls are available at the Club and if after three months you decide you like the game, you then get into the Club Uniform and carry on.
Well that's it for this week, see you all at the Bowlie.
