Here is the latest from the Bowlie.
While it was good to see some welcome rain last Saturday it did mean that Bowls were cancelled for the day so there is not a lot to comment on this week.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
On Thursday, June 7 Steve Mills played George Bradley in a Minor Singles match. Steve had the better of the early ends and after four ends had a lead of 4-1 but George found form and won twelve of the next fifteen ends, scoring 18-3, to lead 19 -7, the biggest margin of the match. The next twelve ends were fairly evenly divided but after thirty-one ends George still had the lead 27-17. Steve eventually found his true form and scored fourteen shots on the next seven ends to advance to the next round with a 31-27 victory.
SOCIAL BOWLS.
Thursday, May 31.
On a pretty good day for Bowls, Ian Simpson and visitor Mike Keane from Nowra, joined fourteen members to play four games of Pairs.
Col Mudie and Col Woods scored four shots on the first end of their Pairs match against Gary McPhee and Bob Freeman but after the twelfth end Gary and Bob had taken the lead 12-10. On the next end the two Cols scored six shots to regain their 4 shot lead but Gary and Bob won four of the next five ends and with three ends to play had the lead 21-19. The two Cols won the next two ends and went into the final end leading 22-21. Both teams held shot at different times in a tense last end but Gary and Bob eventually scored one shot to level the scores 22 all and claim bragging rights having won 12 of the twenty-one ends played.
In another fairly close match, with four ends to play, John Ward and Ian Simpson were trailing by one shot against Ray Jones and Gordon Dickson but managed to score six shots to run out winners, 25-20.
John Dunn and Graham Barby proved too good for Trevor Harvey and Jim Blake.
Mike Keane and Greg Huggins had a comfortable win against Keith MacRae and Rob Irving.
The winning rink prize went to Greg Huggins and Mike Keane and the Runners-Up were Graham Barby and John Dunn.
Reminder.
Entries are being taken for the Major Triples Championship but the closing time has been changed and is now 6 PM on Sunday June 17.
Badge Draw.
The Badge Draw has not been won for a while and is now an attractive $2400. The next draw will be Friday night after 8pm, following the main raffles. Good pub style meals are available so come along for a great night and a chance to win a meat tray or voucher and maybe go home $2400 better off.
